How many of you have grown out Tikal?

Just picked up a pack of Tikal and was wondering if anyone here can give some insight as to what I'm getting into. How big do they get?(Indoors, organic soil,450 watts). Are they acceptable of LST'ing or topping? I have about 4.5-5 ft vertical space after they're in 5 gallon pots. Will this be enough? Any phenos to watch for? I'm really excited to try out some ACE gear. Haven't seen a whole lot about this particular strain by growers, so wanted to get any info I can about this plant. Looking forward to a great sativa high!

I know a lot of you are outdoor growers, so maybe it hasn't been done indoors much. Well, I'll try to give some updates on what I run into when I get then going.

I just planted a few seeds, been waiting for the ascending moon. I'll try to chime in as I go along, if that's OK.

Yeah, KSP, sounds good. Feel free to post anything you want to, I am curious to see how they grow. I curious if they will do well in an organic mix(no nutes, just water). I guess I'll find out soon enough.

I think they'll be fine that way, that's the way I grow. Had a couple breaking the surface this morning.

How many have you tried to pop so far? Good germ rate hopefully. Mine just came in the mail today, but I have to wait a couple of months before I can pop them until the plants in there now are done. I like how the packs have the date on them so you know how old or new they are. Nice touch. I have my soil down pretty good now, but haven't run any sativa dominant plants with it, I hope it's not too hot for them.

Welcome lipsmcgee :)

You can grow Tikal indoors without any problem with a 400w. They react quite well to topping. I have 2 favourite phenos, the strawberry woody a bit incensey sativa pheno with the happy balanced effect (coming from the original Tikal hybrid: Guatemala female X Northern Light/Haze male), which is a perfect balance between 3 strains.

Later, working over the next tikal generations, we found a very special line, Tikal 4 line: a great purple haze x guatemala expression. It takes 3 weeks more than original tikal to flower but the aroma was a strong exotic incense with woods, the high is very powerful and psychedelic. We have mixed both lines to produce latest tikal fem seeds. Now working again on a similar basis for this year reproduction.

Here are a few pics of the tikal standard reproduction. There are 4 different selected Tikal 4 females, one tikal 4 male, and one tikal 3 male. Tikal 3 is the most indica and earliest to flower from all the lines.

Forgot to comment, the young seedlings and small clones were planted in soil in early august. Now in mid septemeber they are over 2 meters.

Best wishes with your grows! :ying:

I had four of four come up, even though I've had the pack for awhile. Always had good germ rates from ACE.

Thanks, Dubi, for stopping by. It's good to hear about those "special" phenos, but I'll probably be quite happy with any of the girls I get. The hardest part is waiting to put them in soil, but I'm positive it will be worth the wait. I'm really happy that I came across your company, you've got just what I need! Awesome photos, does the indica pheno still retain the sativa high or is it more indica in nature? @KSP, I'm glad to hear about the good germ rates and that you never have issues like that with ACE seeds. Makes it even harder to wait for sprouting time!

Dubi, I was curious as to what plants make up the Kush/Haze portion of the Tikal. I've seen discussions about the "Kush" portion being an unknown, although good indica, but was wondering what you guys used for the Haze side.

Thanks lipsmcgee and KSP for the kind words :)

Tikal breeding project started around 2005. We have opened lot of different lines since that time: backcrosses to the guatemala line, inbreeding indica pheno, inbreeding purple haze guatemala pheno, selecting the strawberry incensey lines, selecting small phenos for indoor growing etc .... there's a great variety of Tikal lines and we breed together the best ones with the better balance of traits to produce the commercial Tikal.

The Kush is probably a Northern Light. A friend living in holland for a few years got the seeds from her favourite smoke in town, she said it was probably a NL/Haze and after grown the seeds im inclined to think the same. Then the best NL Haze was crossed to guatemala sativa and all the Tikal history started :)

Put a fewTikal in soil to sprout, haven't seen anything so far(7 days). All other(different genetics) have already sprouted. Do these take a while to sprout? Been poppin seeds for 20 plus years and don't usually have any problems, but I'd ike to see what others have experienced. May have to scuff some to see if they'll start taking in a little moisture so that they crack. Any advice form fellow ACE growers?

Well, it's been 5 more days and still nothing. I am attempting the paper towel method on 3 others Tikal seeds since my usual method of putting them in moist soil with a humidity dome has not been successful in getting these to pop. I haven't seen any signs of growth from either batches I have tried so far. I really hope they're still viable.

Much love to Dubi. Thank you for your help in this and I will soon be able to try some of the great genetics you guys have. :tiphat:
