Around here you cant hire a criminal attorney on retainer, what do you say "i might shoot my wife?" what you have to do is once you find a lawyer that you like give them some money "in trust" and explain that your lifestyle is such that you may need their services on short notice and leave it at that. By establishing a relationship with the attorney before you need help you can reduce your defense bill.

anyone who has either a large grow (or a small one in a non med state) and doesn't have $15k in lawyer cash set aside with with the lawyer himself or with a trusted relative/friend is gambling with their life and hasn't done enough research on this game we play.

It is 100% necessary, unless your cool with chillin in jail.

Omar Figueroa is one of the top pot lawyers in California, has a small office in Sebastopol, and only charges $420 for an initial consult AND retainer. if you call him after you get busted, it goes to $15k. So yep, got the lawyer, got an accountant, and got lots of other people for anything that needs doing. This business is all about connections.

have the finances set aside, but have not personally talked to the lawyer yet. however i know of the lawyer who i would probably call first. he defended a couple friends...one of my idiot high school friends pulled out an illegal gun and threatened someone with it, cops caught him with that anda few g's of cocaine. this lawyer managed to get my boy house arrest and 5 years probation....hot shot stuff!

and then theres my other friend who got pulled over in his car with a 5 pack in the trunk. he did no time either just community service. some good lawyers in the bay area....shit ive had public defenders get multiple counts dropped against me....but for a pot growing case involving possible felonies definately wanna pony up for a good lawyer.

Must have in this game:

Connections
Trusted Electrician
Council on retainer
Cash

If you are messing around in a non-med state or going large in a med state expect that you will need AT LEAST 10k for bail. If you get busted that's gone because your bail maybe 100k and the bondsman is keeping the 10k (10%). Then you need some loot to lawyer up. If you have someone on retainer this is where you will save a lot of money. I have heard of people paying between $100 / month to $1000 / month in retainer fees. I figure of you can afford $1000 / month for retainers then you definitely need to be paying it.

In fairness, you actually get a lot for this fee. Unlimited advice, reviewing contracts.. you can talk to your lawyer. Lawyers are required by law to keep confidential anything pertaining to the representation of the client.

...Did you just yell 'America?'

Yes, I should of been more clear in my first post, I was only referring to the actual lawyer, not bail. Of course you also need bail money set aside, and I followed the same guide as the dude I quoted. If your going big, around $10k per person for bail.
