HOW MANY BTU TO COOL 2000W

i HAVE HEARD THE RULE OF THUMB IS 5000 BTU PER THOUSAND WATTS.

DO YOU THINK A 10,000 BTU WILL BE GOOD ENOUGH FOR A SEALED ROOM 2 1000W HPS? THE OTHER OPTION IS 12,000 BTU.

BOTH ARE WINDOW UNITS.

even tho 5000 btu per 1000w open bulb does the job,
I'd get the 12,000btu if it's not way too much more xpensive
lifes always easier with extra headroom :smoke:

Sounds good bro. So you think that will let me keep temps reasonable? First sealed room I built.... or tried to run. Stoked :D

I'm running sealed, 6000w with a 32,500btu mini split with ballasts in the room.
works for me
it gets a bit warmer at the back wall opposite the ac head but ay room is 20ft long x 14wide.
in retrospect, with a room this size i would run 2 units
1 at each of the 20ft runs and this is also insurance if 1 unit takes a dump you have the other online.

curious if your going sealed why use a window unit instead of a mini split?
Ive heard they are a prob to seal up if it can be done?

btw just finished my 1st run with a sealed room.... its the only way to go!

Logistics of where I live in the city make the window unit desirable.

Thanks guys.

A lot depends on your night temps in your local. I learned to always go with more. Borderline often isn't enough. Good luck. -granger

I'd say 12k minimum too Tony , but the only problem i see is , i don't know if window bangers are considered sealed . i use window AC's to cool my spots , but i don't run a sealed room , so i'm not worried if air escapes the room through the AC unit . my scrubbers are good enough that if the AC's do leak air .... its not going to be stanky air ..... i hope :)

Get the 1ton. I am using one (portable ideal air) in a walk in closet with 2 tents. Veg has t5 and flower has 400 hps. It's good. Does not cycle too much and I can get temps very low, too low... so a 12,000 would be good for you for your wattage. Actually I used a calculator that another member showed me.

What I have is a thru the wall unit, but they're basically the same as window units. Quality units are sealed-mostly. The rest of my room, outside the stalls is effectively a lung room with AC, dehum, big Phresh filter, CO2. If I left the doors to my 3x3's open for a few minutes [during height of smell], so the stank goes into the rest of the room, and go outside and stand next to the AC intake/exhaust, there is a slight smell. You can't smell it if you're just a few feet away. The smell is picked up by the water I think. That's why I keep the can of deodorizer paste there [Linen scent]. -granger
