How loud would this 125mm mixed flow fan be?

It would be hooked up to a carbon filter and hopefully run on low speed. It'll be exhausting a small tent grow for now.

Also, can I use my plain old fan speed controller dial that I use for my other regular fans, in conjunction with the two speeds the fan can already be run on? I don't know how to describe it better but it's the simple fan control, not the pole (?) type.

Thanks!

My Elicent was rated at 45 dB. Quadruple silenced with insulated duct, fan speed control, fan isolation box and muffler, it could still be heard at my neighbor's doorstep across the street.

Oh my gawd, say it ain't so! Damn, I still have nightmares about your fan stories. I will note though, at the low speed, it would surely be a lot less than 45. I'm only cooling 200w or so and it's the first day of winter today so I'm fairly certain the low speed will do me. Normally I'd pop for a whisperline or S&P but they aren't available, but I was hoping for at least a similar noise level. Well thanks everybody, I'll try to bump this with a noise report when I get it hooked up.

Also this was recommended as the stealthiest fan available for this application, on an oz weed forum. They were sayin' it's super quiet. *scratches head*

At that distance, we are no longer talking about the feeling of sitting under a rocket at liftoff. More like a cricket chirping in the next room. Just loud enough to be unbelievably irritating, like audible water torture. "What the hell is the sound and where's it coming from?" Not a question you want to hear from your neighbors.

With the garage door closed (and 4X muffling) the sound was contained in the garage. I just couldn't let anyone into the garage or leave the door open which spawns new questions from neighbors. "Dude, where you been? Your door's always open. What changed?" Again, questions from neighbors, not a good thing.

As long as you can lock people out of the room, or put the fan in a room no ones allowed to enter (say the attic) you'll be OK. But, everyone in the room will know the fan is there and will ask why.

Thanks freeze. I'm a glass-half-full kind of guy so at least I think this will be an improvement on my current fan, lol. Also, the current one is just physically too large to soundproof in a box whereas this new one will be much easier. I remain hopeful...sort of. *lip quiver*

Actually, I looked up the 120mm pc fan I use inside the tent for circulation, it's running on full speed and is rated at 46.5dBA. That's pretty much the level I was expecting from the new fan, so maybe this'll work out fine, especially set to low speed. Thanks a lot everybody.

Hi kicknader, I couldn't find S&Ps in my country. I can rarely find ANY of the really good equipment discussed on ICmag. And since this westaflex looks pretty similar, I went with that.

Just want to say that this fan is very quiet. I would say about the same volume as a 125mm S&P, going solely off written descriptions of the S&P noise characteristics. I can only guess Elicient fudged their figures? Wired at full speed, it's as loud as that computer fan I mentioned, with a similar db rating.

In depth noise description: http://www.icmag.com/ic/showpost.php?p=2404193&postcount=46

Thanks again everyone for contributing. I'm so happy to finally have the right tool for the job. Had terrible luck with fans before.

S&P is a nice fan but, let's get real. I've a 100x and with a 12" scrubber and 6 ft of duct it can easily be heard 20-30 feet away.
