How long to wait, germination

I know it's not a lot but it's been 4 days since i planted my seeds into soil and i don't see any signs of life yet.

I planted them about 1/2 inch deep, in 25% perlite, 75% pro-mix soil.
My 400w MH is at 12 inches from the pots on a 18/6 schedule and the dirt is still moist.

How long should i wait before giving up on them?

Nevermind, 2 of them are born. :woohoo:

I see a small leaf in one pot of the pot.

I also see something which looks like a grey stick with a ball on top in another one.
I'm assuming this one hasn't popped open yet.

This works for me : GERMINATION

Yeah, I'm gonna use the paper towel method next time cause this feels like playing the lottery.

Anyways, WR#1, WR#2, WR#3 are all alive but WR#4 still hasn't showed up.

WR#1 is pretty odd.
One of her leaf is yellow colored with a dark green tip.

I don't have much hope for WR#4 at this point.
It's the only seeds that wasn't big and round plus, i accidentally dropped it's pot on the side.

The seed was still covered in dirt tho and didn't end up on the floor so i don't know what to think.

next time plant them 0.5 cm to 1 cm deep, not 1/2 inch.
in a less aerated soil mix they would have never broke ground if you planted them that deep.

Damn, really?

That could be the problem, i planted White Rhino#4 deeper than the other ones. I plant it around 3cm deep to be exact.

Should i start over?
Cause at this point with all the abuse it suffered, it think it's game over for WR#4.

well, if you're in a hurry you should sow some more seeds, if not, give them a chance, some of them might break ground in the next 3 days.

except the ones that spread underground by bulbs, corms, tubers, tuberous roots or rhizomes, most plants sow themselves by having their seeds falling on the ground and ending very close to the surface for germination.
remember that next time you plant seeds..

I'm kinda in a hurry, I'm hoping to have 2 harvests before June next year.

I put 2 extras seeds in a wet paper towel on top of my modem, hopefully one of them will germ.

Then, i'll just plant it into a 1cm deep hole as suggested.[/quote]

Stay with directly planting them in you mix. Paper towels work, but it's an unnecessary extra step that adds risk for the young 'uns. Just plant them no more than a 1/4" deep, be sure that they are either pointed side down or laying on their side. Good luck. -granger

I always get good results starting seeds directly in my soil mix, but 1/2" is too deep. Got any pics of the ones that have germinated?

Wouldn't that be nice - rhizomatous pot?!
