how long to have jars open during cure..?

When i harvested my first crop I hung it to dry till the stems snapped..I then placed my buds in jars for them to cure...How long should the jars be open to air out? I know the longer the better but how often should they be opened n aired out? i didn't get much of a taste from my buds so im thinkin i did it wrong..Any suggestions?

The point of jars is to seal them. That's why they have lids. You'll want to burp them a few minutes a day but, other than that, use those lids. Without them, the jar is useless.

my buds were pretty dry...dry enough for the stems to snap. It probably was the strain cuz it was bagseed.. i checked the trichs and waited for almost all red hairs to harvest. Thanks for the input tho...maybe next time i'll have better luck..How long do you guys usually have your bud curing in jars? Could the way i dried it also have an affect?

Ok as a rule of thumb I start with around 20 minutes 2 times a day. Then after a week only one time 20 minutes a day for a week. If they are ok dry I do it once in a while, but just open and close.
I dont let my stem snap completely, like real dry when I jar them. I like to let the last moisture go slowly that way I can keep it potent the longest.

When I have a lot of buds, I let them becoe jar dry ready and then I vacuum it and in the freezer. When I need some I pop a vaccumbag and then let the stuff dry from the frost and then I start the jar curing.

Depends on your plant and where you live.

If SOG or small, chop and hang the whole plant upside down. If not, remove stems from branches and hang the stems upside down. When they pass the snap test, remove buds from stems and go to jars or use the paper bag trick. This inbetween stage places buds loosely in a brown paper bag. Fold top over a couple of times. Burp every day for a week or two and then to jars.

............ ADD ................

I believe the consensus here is to trim leaves and buds immediately after chopping. I know I do.

Freezerboy is spot on...
I trim, then hang till they feel like POPCORN, then into paper bags till the stems snap...
Then into jars...
BEFORE i found this tech, i could NEVER get them to dry to STEM snapping stage, without looseing the aroma...so put into the jars at POPCORN/STEM bending stage BUT i had to burp the jars daily..
With the paper bag tech, i usually BURP the jar once or twice and thats it... OHHH i cure in PINT jars..
AND just as YoungMS grower says There ae a mess of techs to read. READ and try them till you find one that works for you...It took me a year of trial and error, but finally got it down... Good Luck Good Grow PAX...

I actually have read that whole damn thread... A ton of good info in there. I just wanted everyone elses opinion on it cu i tried a few of the techniques in that thread. I appreciate veryones input that contributed!

take the lid off and put it back on again

you're simply trying to exchange the air inside the jar, without disturbing the well-dried buds you put in there. i'm sure you have figured out that if you emptied the jar every day onto a piece of cardboard, while it would dry very well, you'd lose a ton of trichomes.

i blow across the top of the jar to siphon out the old air and suck in new air, then close the jar. its not about time, its simply about exchanging the air in the jar for fresh air.

once you chop the plant down, longer and slower is better. growing fast might be what you need, but when it comes to post-harvest, longer and slower is what preserves the most quality. everything a person does to accelerate the drying and curing process, reduces quality.

I chop branches trim and hang dry until stems snap. Then straight into jars with daily opening to let moisture out and fresh air in. They usually take on a hay aroma for the first few weeks them, BAM! The aroma and flavor starts coming out. I open my jars daily until they have reached the state of dryness to my liking. I like my buds dried to a point that when you grind it, it has to sit for a few hours before rolling. Smokes great out of pipes and bongs at this stage. I've used the paper bag method and it works well to even out the moisture throughout your buds. I quit using it though because I felt a lot of trichs are lost in the bag and the bud loses a lot of hairs to. They look better and smoke as good or better without the paper bag.:2cents:

while burping, should i only remove the lid for 5 or 10 minutes and then put the lid back on , or should i also take buds out of jar for 5-10 minutes and then put them back in jar again ?

And after burping for 2-3 weeks, how can i storage my buds ? can i keep them into jars without burping ( without take the lid off ) for a long time ? or should i take the lid off even during storage cured buds ?

It will depend on the buds state of dryness and how full your jars are. I leave mine open around 30 minutes a day. If the jars are full I remove the buds from the jar. After they have cured and attained your desired state of dryness you should check them every week or so. Thats what I do. :2cents:
