how is average yield determined?

when a strain is advertised at 350g/sqare meter. does that mean vegging for 1 or 10 weeks? i have some plants that are considered to have "average" yields under a 600w light lst'ed for 1 month. is that condition alone suposed to give me above "average?" just tring to figure out were these figures come from?

Exactly what JJ said, and alot of things can influence your yield.
Lights, medium, nutes, veg time, co2, etc etc

The best thing for you to do is grow a bunch of times, you will get your skills down and know exactly how much you will get from your own grows

Those numbers are complete b$. But what you can do is take the numbers from the same breeder and compare strains to find out the yields in comparison to the other strains from the same breeder.

You can also use strains that you know a general yield (ie, low, medium, high, etc) as a baseline to gauge other strains. It's best to scale from within the same breeder.

i dont really want figures here, and i konw these variables come into play. the thing is. i see some strains advertised at 350 grams/square meter (as above), but that takes into account none of these factors. i have seen people get 2 lbs of 1000w and heard about as much as 3. other people i konw got 96 grams off a bunch of plants crammed into a small closet under a 400w. but if people do what they need to keep plants constantly healthy. cant one expect more then .5 grams per watt. i dont have perfect ventilation, but my nutes are good (flora nova drain to waste), and i measure exactly, and work from low to high doses. my light is always 20" from plants. i use fox farms organic soil. but i keep a small intake and extake fan going. i feel like amongst my strains (og kush, purple kush, Mazar, Sage n sour) could all be yielding well. plus they are super LST'ed. short 12-14" and wide 18-25"

i feel confident about more then .5 grams per watt. but i guess well see.

i find it depends how many colas you have on the plant, each one seems to get me 5-10g. but that ofc is under my growing conditions and for the strain im using. for everyone else its going to be different.

Assuming that all the environmental variables are inline and nominal (nutes, light, co2, heat, etc), the single biggest variable left is phenoes.

What I mean is that depending on your grow style...sog, dwc, tree, stadium...certain phenoes from certain strains will produce fantastic or shitty results.

example

Super Silver Haze is a beautiful girl, and is genetically predisposed to be tall and lanky with moderately spaced internodes. Growing her in a sog setup is counter productive, while a dwc setup with 4 weeks of veg and lots of headroom would result in a special harvest you would tell your grand babies about.

Some of the purer indicas like afgan and skunk are going to respond to a nice topping in a scrog environment and look like a freaking hedge. Im talking multiple colas with many many small rocky nuggets like golf balls.

I would seriously figure things out in this order:

1) my grow method
2) time alloted for veg
3) how much light is available (some NEED more than other s just to fill out)
4) then pick a strain and pheno that fits into the above

ask around once youve figured out 1,2, and 3...

i think over 80% of seeds on the market are slightly exaggerated in there advertisements

i agree that every ones posts are to guarantee a good yeid, but no one has mentioned "pot size" which i think is just as important as the rest

clones will prove better to give average yeilds
