How far into flowering do you use Nitrogen?

Seems to be some difference of opinion on this, even among the nute companies.

I saw one feeding regimen put out by the Earth Juice Folks where Nitrogen was stopped after 30 days of flowering, but than I thought I saw another feeding regimen by the Roots Organics folks where nitrogen was used up until the last two weeks of flowering.

I usually give N in full strength (EJ grow) up till the 4th week of flowering , than after that I usually stop.

Also, what are the effects of continuing to use N throughout flowering? Some references I found indicate it may lead to more leafy bud. Is this fact or speculation?

Thanks.

...different strains use different amounts of fertilizers at different times...vague answer is vague...ha!...but having said that I generally keep using *some* N until around halfway through the flowering cycle of any given variety...

Photosynthesis occurs in the leaves and you should be supplying enough nitrogen to support healthy leaves at all times. Keep 'em green!

Thats something that I have noticed here is that lots of folks are chopping fully dark green plants. I'm old school, in that I like to let the plant use up the nitrogen (and chlorophyll) in the shaders and they yellow and fall off prior to harvest. The smoke tastes like ass to me if the buds are full of chlorophyll. But thats just my opinion and how I learned from an old-timer....

Agreed with awake, I kill all nutes at 2 weeks prior to harvest. Let them get all yellow and brown then chop chop =D

I keep them green to the end . That chlorophyll taste comes from not curing properly . A starving plant doesn't do anything but swell from the 2 week flushing .

I stop feeding the last 2 weeks. I wont harvest until the plants use up all of the nutrients stored in the leaves. Sometimes I will have to harvest before they are all yellow. Most of the time the plants are all yellow.

Well I generally associate Nitrogen with growth, so I generally give them nitrogen until they've stopped stretching during the first few weeks of flowering. Once that happens they're focusing on flower development so I'd think it'd be best to stop with grow feed after they've stopped stretching.

I stop using Grow Nutrients the day they are put into flower. Bloom Nutrients has plenty of N in it to continue healthy green plants.. I used Bloom nutients a few times all the way throught from veg to harvest...I ran out of grow so I just used bloom.

I usually flush most of my grows for the last two weeks.

Your issue is you're listening to nute companies. That's all well and good for regular crops... but with prohibition being mainstream, these companies don't have a clue what your ladies need.

Depends on strain and grow style. Big trees need nitro and calcium and mag... wow, an actual situation where Cal/Mag might be desired. That's rare. Most people just use it because someone said so or they're hoping it will fix some 'deficiency' they think they have.

Play with your strains. Find out what they like, it takes time, a few runs and a lot of work. Some growers are beginning to use GH Bloom only, for the last few weeks. This cuts out the nitrogen, calcium, iron and moly... I can only see this as being beneficial to end quality. H3ad and other growers don't report yield losses so......

Personally I like short, compact plants that yield heavily. :D Figures I prefer sativas for my head though. LOL

Stay Safe! :blowbubbles:
