How does Auto flowering work?

Hi all new to auto's , my million dollar question is how breeders make auto's? , I mean it's pretty awesome how you go straight into flower , with no need to worry about veg, neat how it saves weeks.

:gday:

they are crossed with a plant called a ruderalis, and whats specific about this plant is that it flowers with age as oppose to changes in light cycles

if you are looking to create your own autosthen just get some already stabalized seeds from any auto breeder and cross them together to produce your own new strain,

thats what most people on here do

or you could start out with just the basic lowryder plant and start to add your own unique regular strains to that, this process would take longer because you would have to back cross seeds and make sure the auto trait is stable but if your a true breeder and wanna produce new genetics then this is the way to go, or as i said above just use somebody elses hard work and create your own

hope this helps

peace

I don't know why for so many years I thought creating autos would have to be from physically altering the genetics test tube style , I thought of them as a dwarf variety when in actuality they bloom early regardless of light cycles and are just smaller because they can't grow very tall in 2-3 months.

Why ruderalis flowers early became my question.

http://www.hempworld.com/Hemp-CyberFarm_com/htms/hemp-seed/finland.htmlMost modern autoflowers granddaddy is FIN-314, hemp variety with 0,2% or less THC. http://www.finola.com/index.html Lowryder is ?xFIN-314, made in Canada, I think, cannot be sure of this also don't know how many time backcrossed to get even decent potency. FIN-314 was created to produce seeds for oil, but problem is our long days here and when daylength is about right, it is getting too cold. Autoflower is just nature way to adapt and survive in rougher climates with long daylengths. I think original Ruderalis genes for FIN-314 came from Russia, which were then bred toward zero THC and easier to collect crop(seeds) with harvester.

Dr. J.C. Callaway were the breeder together with Kuopio University.

You can buy 20kg bags of that seed via that link I posted. You could start making your own autos from very beginning. Also there is Callaway contact info for voice contact and consultation. Maybe he can help choosing phenos for medical breeding? :)

Here is more info from Callaway:http://www.hempworld.com/Hemp-CyberFarm_com/htms/hemp-seed/finland.html

Will these veg under 12/12 light

Yeah, they'll "veg" under 12/12, but better to have 18/6, 20/4 lighting regimen to get the best possible out of genetic make up.

You really do an unjustice to the plant only going 12/12 in veg or bloom....but just from my observation growing, breeding autoflowers for over 8+ yrs.

To each their own......

Ruderalis plant genes are why plant are not light sensative, and why they mature early. Indicas predominantly mature earlier than sativas....just the genetic structure.

By hybridizing ruderallis with photoperiod, it takes numerous generations (we usually get stable strains after 6 generations) to become fully autoflowering with ruderalis as pack leader.

Thanks was just wondering as ive lost two of my 20 blueberry and was gonna put some autos in to make up for it but if thats the case ill give it a miss

Interesting, this seems longer than necessary. What are your generation advancement protocols? Open pollination, sib crosses, or bulk sib crosses? How strong a selection pressure are you applying on photoperiod sensitivity after the F1?

I am currently growing in 24 hours a day (Day 38 was when they started showing pistils) thinking of leaving it 24 for this grow. And then try 18/6 on the next on.

Question
If you cross an auto Female with a non-auto Male, what will happen?

Will the seeds be mixed? Some auto some not?
In the first generation none will be auto, it’s a recessive trait. Some will show up in the F2’s and you want to cross these. The trick is selecting for other desirable traits.

Actually you do get approx. 25% AUTO traits 1st generation.
