How do you size the dehumidifier

Howdy, My dehumidifier is full everyday and it is just plain annoying. I think it was undersized for the grow. It is a 30 pint for 3000w. What formula is used for calculating dehumidifier size

It's not the wattage but the size of the room...
No formula that I know of, just get a bigger one. I run a 70pt in a 10x5 and it's plenty.
Remember, bigger dehuey = more heat...

dan i have a 70 pint in a 12x12 and its full almost everyday..If that helps sounds like you need a model that auto drains to waste!!

a good rule of thumb is to know how much water you feed the plants every day & use that as your high side estimate... but

it will depend a lot on the temps (how effective the deuy wil operate) , how you circulate the air & the ambient rh... amongst other considerations. most peeps just start too small & keep adding equipment until they get it right. ;-)

These models tell you the sq ft they will cover. [I'm assuming for an 8' height] Allow more capacity, and consider it is a basement application. This one has pump with hose you can run to a drain or bucket. Lifts water up to 15 ft. May be cheaper on Amazon, but this site is a good place to shop-large selection, good in-house and customer reviews, etc. Good luck. -granger

The easiest way to size a dehu is the amount of water added to the plants each day. Manufacturers rate dehu capacity with 80F, 60%rh room condition. When rooms are cooler and drier, dehu moisture removal can fall by 50% or even more.

I agree with Subcooled. I know the original post is about a year old and the conversation is over, but my thought would be that if the bucket is always full, get a bigger bucket for the same humidifier. Better yet, hook it up to drain continuously through a hose and then you don't have to empty it. You might have the right humidifier but the wrong bucket capacity.

If you are trying to pull in outdoor air for cooling and dehumidifying that, you are going to be out of luck. The grow space must be either sealed or reasonably well contained to control humidity. If you pull in outdoor air, just save your money and don't run the dehumidifier. It's like running your furnace while leaving the doors and windows open. No way will you be able to control the climate if you can't control the inputs.

the best solution is the simple humble condensate pump.

just get one with an overflow switch... when the switch is cut in, wire a relay such that the energized coil opens the contacts for the dehumidifier.

or dont. just periodically service the condensate pump to keep it from fucking up.
