how do u make a tincture that works?

i want to fill up a 2oz darm amber glass little erbal bottle with some canntincture n be able to dose with just one or two droppers full, again im so sick of wasting pot on lousy edibles, it takes two ounces of trim to make a cup of butter and it usually isnt even that great, gereally i could of just smoked the sugar trim n been high without the wait or hassle of butter production, tried green dragon but drinking booze to get high will never happen for me as i hate being drunk and the batch i made didnt even work after soaking for 3 weeks. so has anyone made a real potent tintucre that only take say 30 drops or two dropper fulls tobe high for say 3 hours? i really want to get away from smoking but that may not be possible iim finding.

the more i read the more i think u just gotta make a strong butter and then cut it with someing fatty thats not saturated like olive oil so it doesnt solidify and then place that in a tincuture, sort of like half liquid butter tintucre. ill probally just make cannacocnut butter then add half olive oil.

You can make honey oil via many different solvents...the most efficient would probably be isopropyl alcohol or butane. I am experimenting with making green dragon, then refining it. You add water to the green dragon, boil off the water, then siphon the water off, and you'll have honey oil.

After you have completely evaporated your solvent, you will have a small amount of extremely potent oil.

Now you can add a small amount of solvent (glycerin or high proof alcohol) for a high potency tincture.

For example:

make 7g bud into honey oil
add 50ml of solvent
or add 25 ml of solvent for higher potency

or make 28g of bud into honey oil
add 50ml of solvent
or add 25 ml of solvent for higher potency

etc....

Just based off of what I've read. I'm no master of this.

I think dosage is different for everybody, so I would just make a high potency tincture and if it is strong enough, leave it be. If not, add more solvent until it is to your liking...

How are you making your edibles? Two oz's into a cup of butter should be far more than enough if properly prepared, unless maybe you are just using fan leaves or stems. As for tincture I find soaking the shake in alcohol produces a very nasty flavor, as the alcohol will pull chlorophyll and other contaminants out of the shake. I like making dry sift or bubble hash with the shake and then using that to make the tincture. Comes out MUCH more potent and tends not to get the nasty flavor and dark-green/black color.

This is true, but you can quite easily refine the alcohol tincture.

Let's say you have 100ml of high potency tincture, full of nasty chlorophyl and tannins and what not.

-Add 200ml of water to the cannabis/alcohol mix.
-Heat the water/alcohol/cannabis mix to 185-190F, but always <100C.
I do this by lowering my jar into my kettle of boiling water.
-When all of the alcohol has been evaporated, the thc will fall to the bottom of your jar, because it is heavier than water, and it is not water soluble. The chlorophyl and nasty tasting stuff is water soluble however.
-Refrigerate the water/cannabis mix for a couple of hours to encourage flocculation (formation of sediment).
-carefully siphon the nasty water from the jar, leaving you with the resin on the bottom of the jar.
-Add a small amount of solvent to the resin and you are left with a high potency tincture that tastes good.

I like that idea ducky.

I made a couple of tinctures before. I let the bud soak in 190 proof for about a month with shaking it almost daily. Once I filtered out the material I sat the juice on a candle warmer and let about half to 3/4 evaporate off and was left with a potent cocktail. Everyone who tried it loved it and was good with 1 dropper full. As for me, I can't hardly swallow liqueur, so I eventually evaporated all the everclear out and was left with a thick gooey black hash oil. Just used it as a bowl topper. Still have a little, didn't care much for smoking it, left a filmy feeling in my mouth. I guess I turned it into pretty much Rick Simpsons hash oil.

Sorry to veer you off course, but have you ever thought of making slowandeasy's capsules? They aren't very hard to make, and what's easier than taking a pill or two? I've made them too, but I'm too used to smoking the herb and it is a bit different...I'm sure you know that talking about edibles and them not being very effective for you. Me too.

first of all, chlorophyll is good for you

second, I took a fairly strong tincture recently that was dark green with chlorophyll but tasted only of fresh bud... really surprising, and delicious

it was made with 151 alcohol (no oil/fat) and was potent after heating on the woodstove to about 200F for half an hour or so a few different times.

this chart jump117 posted in the holy shit thread is very helpful for determining heating temps and times

For historical justice, I must say that I've just improved the graphics and added a Fahrenheit temperature in the charts,

in my experience (click) I watched an active release of gas bubbles from the melt of amber
at a temperature 122С from the fifth minute, on the tenth minute it stopped,
while as scheduled, it is necessary 27 minutes, probably the temp in my oven was higher.

1 dropper of the tincture only lasted an hour, 5 droppers was way too strong and completely killed my cannabis tolerance... I can still barely smoke a month later. I think because it was a Flo tincture it was harder to detect at first, now I wouldnt take more than two droppers of that brew within a few hours ..if even that much

i have a super tiny glass bottle with a small dropper inside, i add 1 gram of shatter to the empty bottle and put 10 dropperfulls of MCT (coconut oil) into the bottle.

pop it into the nuke a few minutes at a time, when it gets super hot i stir until all the hash oil is dissolved. 1 dropperfull = 1/10th gram. i usually take 2 or 3 at a time.

I wouldn't bother with removing the chlorophyl normally. Only reason I am doing so is that I will be adding the tincture to beer that I will be bottling, and I do not want it to affect the flavour of my brew.

so i have a ol oreganol bottle, its a 2oz amber galss tincture of oregano oil thats been washed out, if i just add some extra virgin coco oil plus a gram to the bottle then nuke it for say one minute 2-3 with the bottle dropper screwed on the bottle ill be good? its sounds good but i just tried nuking bread with hempseeds n coconut oil plus 2 grams of dry shake wrapped in plastic, got zero effect n again wasted a days worth of tokeables trying to nuke a healthy verison of a firecracker.

its about the decarb, gotta decarb or the oil wont have full effect as an edible.
i do a few minutes at a time in my weak ass microwave, more like 10-20 minutes or so, if you count the pauses between 2 minute nukes. so the oil get HOT and stays there for some time. temp over time thats what its about.
use a needle to stir with vs the glass pipette and leave the lid off when heating. if you feel especially lazy just heat stir, and leave it overnight. the glob of barely mixed oil will dissolve if given enough time.
extra virgin coconut oi has plenty of fat

btw the sandwich you describe sounds awful!

i just put 3 grams into a tincture bottle with coconut oil, then i put the bottle in a pot of water, then i boiled water for 5 hours, im hopeing this works because if it does its dam simple and has potential. ill keep you guys posted, im probally gonna get some raw cacao butter and make it that way next time if this method even works. it looks nice n dark though.

I've made olive oil for canna salad dressing using a pyrex measuring cup as a double boiler. Just grind up 1/8 oz to 1/4 cup of oil and heat for 1 hr. The hard part is keeping the measuring cup covered to keep the steam out. I believe the Cannabrex kit for making pills has a boiling jar to do a similar extraction.

If you've read any of my comments on extraction methods, I always recommend using oil and a water-less method of extracting. Butter is the worst method to use but seems to be the most popular. Olive oil is ok but has a high water content so it picks up more bad tastes and less potency. Coconut oil is the best by far.

I've been experimenting with stronger batches of tincture lately. Depending on the bottle here, 1 or 2 drops is enough for me to feel it. 3 to 5 drops is enough to get decently high. 1 drop of the C99 tincture is actually too much for a low tolerance friend of mine.

To make a batch (2 bottles), start with one ounce of high quality dried and cured trim. Do a quick 20 second wash with 99+% isopropanol, strain and filter, and evaporate the iso to get the golden colored oil. Purge by dissolving in Everclear 190 and evaporating. I do this 3 times per batch, although I don't know if that's really needed. After purging, dissolve in 50 mL Everclear 190, filter again, and you're done. The result is a beautiful golden colored tincture.

I do a second extraction on the same trim, this time with room temperature iso for 24 hours. Repeat the same process as with the first extraction, and you get a darker colored tincture that's still very strong. I haven't done enough experimenting yet to notice a difference in effects between the tincture from the first wash vs. the second.

The trim still has some good stuff left after both extractions. Simmer a few grams in a cup of whole milk for 15 minutes, strain, and add cocoa powder and sweetener (or chocolate syrup) for a nice relaxing beverage.

The colors I got here are interesting. I grew C99 and Swiss Cheese last fall at the same time. They both got the same organic soil mix (peat, coco, perlite, worm castings, blood meal, bone meal, lime). The Swiss Cheese used up the nutes faster, so the trim was mostly yellow by harvest time. The C99 still had some green trim. The second iso wash with the C99 trim came out a lot greener than the Swiss Cheese.

Google the words; 'BadKittySmiles BadKat's Glycerin canna', for an online recipe book (dispensary and Granny Storm Crow approved!), that includes photo tutorials for glycerin tincture, as well as recipes you can use your tincture with even beyond sprays and candies... it can be used for beef jerky, for vaping in e-cigs, for fruit salads, and even for some light baking if you're careful not to over-bake.

There is an abbreviated version of the cookbook on here, somewhere, I'm not sure how linking works here, but it can be found in the 'edibles/food' section of Granny's medical list, and the full thread has been 'stickied' for easy finding in a few other spots over the net.

Now that's a nice selection. I plan on making a batch of my ethanol tincture for every new strain I grow. Someday I'll have that many bottles to choose from.

I'll have to try that glycerin recipe soon. The rest of your post gave me the munchies. Lol. Sampling tinctures and looking at pictures of food usually gets me into trouble diet wise.

m134 i like the photos esp the one with the ginger and fruit, i luv ginger and one gourmet foodie can always recognize another. i decided to make cannacoconutbutter again, going on hour 3 as we speak, about 14 grams of buds and a big bag of shake maybe a ounce, mostly from frosty trim, im gonna let her go 4-5 hours n hopefully get some good stuff, then im gonna try decarbing and frying some bud for 5 minutes and seeing what that does.
