How do I Waterproof cabinet?

I recently purchase a wardrobe cabinet similar to a Mills pride c22 at home depot. I want to protect it from water both from spills and from spraying with fertilizer.

I also hope to protect my floor from any leaks. Can someone give me some tips on waterproofing melamine cabinets.

What should I use?

Thanks

melamine is waterproof...to a degree

as long as the cut ends are not exposed to water..you should have no problems

Hello all,

I would use urethane(sp) on the bottom myself...I did not do it in my cab and wished I did. I am a soil grower so my spills are minor and have not been a problem but I still might use on the bottom.

You can use a couple of coats of a good emanel on the exposed ends. Use caulking along the corners.

Just some thoughts.

They sell pond liners and shower liners at Home Depot and lowe's. I would go that route.

My 2 cents

there are waterproof white (reflective) paint-on finishes that come in a can at the hardware store, too.

folded pond plastic, a bit if glue for it, dont cut it at all at the corners just fold it in on itseself to make a tray shape as deep as you need... or you could make a frame from some battens and fix the liner to that for a bit more rigidity...

Thank you all for your replies.

I thought of the pond liners but I was hoping for a paint or spray on coating. I was thinking of trying one of the basement waterproofing paints. Like drylock. They have a water-based version that might do the trick. any thoughts?

caulk the corners to get a rounded edge from the corners and edges then paint with waterproof paint. After each grow, vacuum out the debris, wipe down and throw another coat of paint on. Or of course, liners... but from what Ive noticed is that the 4mm tent to get holes in them if you have heavy pots sitting on soil or even when you turn the heavy pots on the liner...
