how do I rate a thread????

I see the little green boxes that people have under their names that comes with the rating and comments people leave them in "my ic".
How do I leave them a comment and a green box,
...and whats up with the gray box?
some people have given me a positive rating with a green box, and others also give positive rating but with a gray box????

I have tried, and can not figure it out. I do see the, "Did you find this post helpfull?"question that can be answered with a yes or a no,but thats it

what Im I missing???

ok, I see how to rate with stars for the entire post, but what about the green squares and comments for people who respond to the original post? my "thread tools" does not have any such option?

ok, I think I may have figured it out, its the little gray scale icon, cool

the gray boxes is for people who don't have enough posts to leave you a rating that effects your reputation. i could be wrong though.
