Everything I read about soil ammendments has to do with...per gallon of soil, but how do I know how much a gallon of soil is? Please assist.

 Measure your tub or whatever you mix in, calculate the volume in cubic feet (Width x Depth x Height=cubic feet), 1 cubic foot=6.43 gal (US dry). Google and bookmark "Online Conversion". :joint:

Man just get a 1 gallon pot and use it as a measuring device, pretty simple.

1tokeovertheline:thank you for that info , I do mix in a rectangular tub so using your method should be easy enough. I thank you.

Cannabis cowboy: Good to know thanks.

Skeletor: That does sound easy enough, but none of my pots had a gallons rating only in inches ex. 12" pot, 8" pot....ect., but thanks for the input.

A black plastic 1 gallon nursery pot is so common you can find them anywhere,if you're confused about the size of a 1 gal pot, someone working there would know for sure.1 gallon has about a 6 inch diameter.

if worst comes to worst - line your planter with a plastic bag and see how much water it will hold.

Take a i gallon jug and pour it into the now lined planter.

If water runs over the top,, it's smaller than a gallon, if it takes 2 jugs to fill it - it is probably a 2 gallon

I'm not sure if a gallon of water and a gallon of soil have the same volume, this isnt one of those"Which is heavier a pound of gold or a pound of feathers lol",Gallon is a weight measurement but we're talking about volume also.EDIT Correct me if'n my thinking's fucked up.

I know, but it is a curious thing,I never thought to compre a gallon of water to a gallon of soil.I'm not confused about the size of a 1 gallon pot though they are just so common nobody should have that problem

Man I dont know what your looking at, but a gallon has nothing to do w/ weight...its strictly a volume measurement.

1gallon of water is exactly equal to 1 gallon of soil (weight will vary)

1 gallon of soil is haevier than 1 gallon of water is heavier than 1 gallon of gasoline...still all equals a gallon. and the pots are deceiving.

milk gallon jugs are designed to appear to hold more than they do...just try to fill your pot that looks too small w/ 1 gallon of water...i bet youll be surprised that it will hold more than u think.

it appears in the quote because "stash" fixed your html in his post

to get it to post in yours you need to edit it, and put the link in like this

yours has some goofy url stuff in it...kind of mixed up...hope that helps

A liquid gallon does not equal a dry gallon. 1 gallon [US, liquid] = 0.859 367 005 gallon [US, dry]. Curtousy of online conversion.com.
