How did it happen?..

A common theme across most MJ growing boards is a strong sense of loss of a number of good "old school ' strains. Skunk, and Ecsd as examples.

I smoked these strains in the 80's and 90's and have to agree they were something special. At the time, there must have been tens of thousands of people growing this stuff.

What happened between then and now that lead to their disappearance?

Ecsd is still around but not as popular as it used to be.

Those old strains have been pushed aside for og kush, chemdog, girls scout cookies, gg4 etc..

Even og kush and chemdog seem to be on the out for more modern hybrids like Stardog.

The internet and legalization has shrunken the scene, you used to have to be a fairly well connected underground grower to get elite cuts. Now it seems any noob can get cuts or go down to the dispensary and buy what they want.

It used to take years for clones to spread, now it takes months.

Which you know scarcity + demand = value, so when the market gets flooded and everyone is growing the same shit value drops out and growers wonder why they don't make shit per lb.

Tens of thousands seems kinda high
Internet growers represent a small percentage of growers
Lots of varieties prob get grown and never leave a small group of people

Tolerance can change your perspective. What ones was top shelf dank might not get you as high as back in the day

Limited availability and space with a desire to try something new. It's a strain killing recipe that effects all gardens over time and is completely unavoidable even in a legal environment.
