How cool is a cooltube?

I'm setting up a grow with a 600w hps inside a cooltube. I think I will be venting it and the room with a 450cfm vortex. How much heat does a well ventilated cooltube put out? Would you say a cooltubed 400w hps is equal to a 75w integrated ballast hps in terms of heat?

very cool

very cool

hardly any-even in the smallest of rooms i've found that a 600w c/tube will only raise the temp by 1c-if that.

cheers

Hi,
With my 400w 1m² 160mm cool tube i get same; +0-1.5 ° celcius
Without it's 2++
I use it only in summer now...Is really welcome since i get pain heat in town in jule/august...

carbon filter>vortex>cool tube> exaust => maybe you can check yourself ?

have a nice grow

So what are you guys getting away with in terms of fans? I was originally thinking 450cfm to vent the tube and the room but it seems like I could get away with less. My room is 192cft.

I use a 115 cfm fan to exhaust my 600W cool tube. Works fantastic and yes, the cool tube is cool. Peace...........RD

The thing is I want to ventilate my room and cooltube with the same fan. If my room is 192cft and I want 2 exchanges a minute I would need a 400cft~ fan, correct? Or are these numbers understated? I would love to do less because I have to pull the intake from the space under a door, don't want my door to sound like a jet engine. What do you guys usually do in terms of air exhanges a minute?

I'm not suggesting that you spend your $$$, lol. But if you can spare, you can get the 449cfm vortex with a speed controller and lower/raise the cfm to your growing needs. The vortex will also last longer since you are not using it to full capacity. It is also quieter if you run it lower than its rated cfm.

also, if you use bigger ducting, say 8" instead of the recommended 6", the air moving in the ducting won't be so loud, and the fan will be much more efficient overall. Lastly, keep the ducting as short as possible.

Can any other "do-ers" growers confirm this? I'm new and starting my grow as well, but have read soo much my head hurts.

I tried a speed controller on my 6" fan. It made it LOUDER. The noise from the movement of airflow went down, but the fan itself developed a "buzz" that was unacceptable. I've since learned that Pulse Width Modulation type speed controllers (the most common type) can create commutation noise. Also, speed controller = longer fan life strikes me as specious. If sound is any judge, my speed controller wanted to kill my fan. With a variac type controller that actually adjusts voltage instead of essentially turning the fan on and off real fast, I could see longer fan life. But no way my PWM type controller was helping motor life.

I got better results by using insulated ducting and other sound suppression strategies.

Just $0.02

what type of light distribution do the cooltube hoods have? i was thinking of getting one for a sog with a 600w hps, base is 3.5ft squared and the height is 5ft, if the lamp is at two feet could the reflector spread the light of my 3.5 ftsquared base?

Vortexes have 10 year warranties. I doubt you have to worry about making it last longer. To efficiently use a larger fan, everything has to be even. Hoods 8", duct 8", fan 8". It'll pull less air if there's any bottlenecks.

ETA: Cool Tube footprints generally suck. They are getting better though. I just installed one of these today and it's much better than my older Tubes.

I just finally got my 400W cooltube this afternoon actually. Been waiting for a while, as its been to hot to use my old 400w batwing... Just couldnt do it...

Ive got one of those Stanley Blowers modified into a fan...Has anyone else used these with a cooltube? How were the results? The cab I am going to be runing is roughly 2ftW x 3ftL x 5ftH. I think the Stanley was said to be around 250ishcfm I beleive, but Im not sure. Thats why Im wondering if anyone has used it before with the Cooltube.

Thanks guys.

Ive done this also. The Stanley will cool a 400w easily. They do pretty ok up to 1000w.

Thanks very much GrowTime...

Im going to run it with the Stanley pulling air through the Cooltube and then exhaust out the back into my DIY carbonscrubber. Good to know the Stanley can really move some air

I say: I agree with you, use larger duct and it will be quiter and put less stress on the duct so it will not break. Speed controller is great tho its hard to know where you are at, for example turning down the knob 5% might reduce fan be 10%
