How can you grow so big plants in so small pots? Do you just have to give it a crapload of nutrients all the time?

The more efficient your nutrient/oxygen system is the better your plants will do. A big root system is not really necessary as an efficient delivery, hydro is a prime example of this. In a hydro system the plant puts more work into growing the plant and flowers then into growing a large root system as it is not needed. The more optimal system for your roots the smaller roots will have to be.

There sure is not a lot of bud on those. They grew them to tall. If you scrog them shorter in the same size pot then you would get a bigger yield.

Just because you can do something does not mean you should do it. :)

Bottom line more root mass = more yield being plants roots can absorb more nutrients
i wouldn't doubt that plant was chopped and stuffed into them 6" pots cause for the height there wouldn't be any soil left lol

Yeah, if they were topped or bent and in a bigger pot there would be way more bud. Plus, you would have to water those every day which is a pita if you're hand watering.

i have grown couple footers in 16 oz cups for fun. rootprune a few weeks before flowering . low yields and alot of watering . low yields too. and plants tip over alot easilly.

here ya go. some of them were like 3 ft if i remember right. ended up transplanting cause they kept falling over. someday i will join the 16 oz challenge and kick ass . my own strain too. the tallest ones were taken outside before pic to try and keep even canopy.

Hi mictsekk

Ahh the 16 oz challenge. Some mighty fine harvests have come out of that style but this is highly dependent on the strain. Some plants are just fighters and don't need anything to dominate!

In my experience, 3 gallon (or 11 litre) pots seem to be a good happy medium for a standard strain to reach its full potential.
