How can I raise pH correctly?

H

hisser

greetings,

I currently have 2 plants in an organic soilmix with 30% perlite in vegitative state for about 6 weeks, I tested the runoff water pH and its 5.16 afaik it should be 6-6.5

I have 2 types of water: one with pH 7.9, the other with pH 7.1, I also have access to distilled water.

I'm thinking about using Sodium bicarbonate E500(Edible), but I have no idea how I should apply it and what dosage to use, please enlighten me.

What I add to my soil mix is some lime dolomite to help stabilize the pH. Many grow stores sell something along the lines of a ph up and ph down product, but some of those may not be organic. Try the lime out though, I think it will do you just fine. Best wishes,

Adding sodium is a bad idea. Probably your best bet is to get some pelletized dolomite like AL said. The pelletized is more water soluble.

You need to gradually increase the PH of the given nutrient mix for these two plants. Don't attempt to overcompensate for the difference all at once, and I wouldn't expect to fully fix the current low-ph issue in those two particular containers; take clones and keep it in mind for next time. Make sure that you PH-adjust in small increments (6.3<6.5) prior to feeding.

If the plants look good i would not do anything the soil will work itself out as far as ph goes also are you going to have them in the same pot when flowering if you are going to transplant just keep doing what you have been doing.I also use lime in my soil helps a little more but you do not get the full effect of it.

I quit doing the pH thing a couple a grows ago took me a long to believe that i did not have to but if you think you have to try leave the pH at 7 for a couple of watering's as already stated that should raise it nice and slow make sure you get a nice run off. PRO MIX is also known for dropping pH after it has been in use for awhile

I ended up using lime, it raised the pH a bit, I'll add some more incrementally.

i would say you can raise your ph just by taking out some water and adding in fresh. i would say now use lime but that is just me. you can do what you are looking for just with some fresh water.

Go to the pharmacy and get a bottle of "Milk of Magnesia" (Magnesium Hydroxide) which costs about $2. Get the original unflavored ones. Shake well and add about 1 to 2 tsp per gallon for every feeding until soil pH is at an ideal level.
