How can I distinguish between auto-flowering and normal flowering plants that need light?

The difference is autos automatically switch from vegetative growth to the flowering stage based on plant age, as opposed to the ratio of light to dark hours required with photoperiod plants.

Day-neutral plants flower regardless of the length of daylight or the amount of light they receive. They are not affected by photoperiodism, a mechanism that uses photoreceptor proteins to sense day and night length and determine when to flower. Day-neutral plants will bloom when they reach a certain developmental stage and other environmental conditions are favorable. Google

Also, if You grow outdoors near street lights Autos won't be affected.
Regular plants exposed to any light during flowering can cause problems.
I never grew Autos yet, but they are liked by many and can be an option.

Thank you so much for your information. That's very helpful to me.

Autoflowering plants will flower on their own regardless of the lighting conditions, usually within 2-4 weeks. Photoperiodic plants, on the other hand, will flower only if you adjust the lighting to 12 hours of light and 12 hours of dark. So, if your plant flowers on its own, it is autoflowering.

Best Information condensed in this thread. I would add that autos may (unverified) flower long too though the reg seeds usually just 2-3 months Flower time, I've had some planted in July and could had gone into october. Does anyone know about it?

Actually, they were planted in June and some began flowering mid July and that's right on schedule. Outdoor northern plants. I don't know anything about how long flowering sativa growth. Maybe it's moot, idk. Such crosses are usually to have sativa and shorten flowering time for us northern growers.
