How big will roots get?

Hello, everyone! This is my first post so I hope this is the right place for my question... Anyway, I have six lovely AK48 girls in my flowering closet right now and they are on day 11 of flower. My question is this- I have them in 3 gallon pots right now, are 3 gallon pots large enough to finish them in??? The plants are right now between 3 and 4 feet tall (the taller ones are tied down), and the plants were vegged for exactly eight weeks. I'm using FFOF soil with 50 percent perlite, a mix of cornucopia and floranova nutes, and tricarbolix acid (sorry, wrong spelling). They are basking under a 600hps with glass enclosed reflector and digital ballast. I want to transplant soon if I have to, but I'm worried about stressing during flowering. Any input would be appreciated, I'll post some pics soon it's just hard because I don't have internet hooked up at my house right now. Thanks in advance, without everyone here and these forums I would have never had the gardening success I've had these past 3 months! http://www.icmag.com/ic/newthread.php?do=newthread&f=10#

Here is my thinking... people can correct me if i am wrong. I am on my first grow and on day 19 of flower. I transplanted from 3 to 5 gallon for flower because i thought the larger pots would allow for larger bud growth. I guess i felt that is the pots were maxed out it would inhibit the bud size thats what i saved the 5 gallon for flower. My plants also are between 2-3 feet but were smaller before i went into flower.. Lets see what others think.

ive heard that once plants stop stretching so say 2-4 weeks into flowering depending on strain the root mass is pretty much done growing. so it would only be worth it to transplant before flowering and veg for a few weeks or transplant and then flip to flower after shock has settled.

Some say 1 gallon per foot of heighth

I say there is no hard and fast rule, but you need enought roots to support the mass above ground. I have a couple strains that are short and dense - they like i gallon per 1-1/2 foot at the end, I have one really tall stretchy plant that seems to be quite happy as a 4 foot tall plant in a 2 gallon pot about 2/3 full of soil.

Start in small pots and transplant often. Small plants in big pots, seldom fill the entire area with root mass - it you start them in an 8 oz cup and up pot 4 or 5 time - they have no choice.

Mo roots and healthier roots make for mo plant and healthier plant. - or is it vice-e-verse?

Also your feeding regiment will dictate what you can and can't do.

this one for example - she isn't as tall as it is wide - blows the hell out of that gallon per foot of heighth rule

They don't like being disturbed after starting flowering - I try to veg for a week to 10 days in the final pot prior to sending to 12/12,, it lets them know there is some ne dirt on the edges again - let's them start sending roots out and then they notice it's time to flower; try to have your ducks in a row, but alas - we are not Gods and the ducks have a mind of thier own.

(Now where is that shotgun? I have a duck that needs a talkin to!) lol

Grow em good!

I have several frickin 5 ft seedplants in 3 gallon pots(NSI classic 1200) and they are plenty, the 5 gallon or classic 2000 is overkill. If you transplanted and didnt plant directly into that 3 gallon container you will be fine.If you planted directly into the 3 gallon container you may have problems with roots growing out the drainholes, not if you transplanted though
