How Big To Transplant From Beer Cups To Larger Container

How big does a plant need to be before you transplant it out of a 10 oz. beer cup to a larger container? Should it be showing it's 3rd set of leaves at say 3 weeks before you transplant it to a larger container?

This is one that is too small to transplant.

I lke to wait until they're about this big to move them into one gallon containers. In the picture, those bags are the 3 gallon size though, for size reference.

You're better off transplanting a little early than a little late. You want to transplant just as the roots are starting to collect and 'spin' at the bottom. By then the root-mass should hold the dirt solidly enough to transplant.

(Oh, 3 weeks sounds a little long, more like 10-12 days depending on your light source and strain)

When you have a solid root mass that slips out of the cup nicely, no crumbling. Has little to do with leaves, except as indicators that you have a decent root mass under the soil.

I like to build a massive root system.
