How big of a carbon scrubber/charcoal filter?

Im not too sure what I need to cover the smell. I think they are carbon scrubbers or charcoal filters. I have a 5x8 foot room with (2) 1000 watt hps lights inside and venting with a Vortex 747 cfm fan. Do you just throw one of these on the end and away you go? If so what size filter would I need? The vortex fan uses 8" ducting. Maybe something on this page? I was thinking the Can100 maybe? Thanks alot its starting to stink around here.

Hey PM

I think you are on to it. I want to get one of that exact same brand but they are hard to get here.... I saw an agents number somewhere but no local web site for the product.

Mountain Air is another brand which I can get local no probs.

These go on the intake end of your ducting so your vortex is pulling the air through it rather than having it on the other end and pushing air through.

I understand that the distance between your vortex and the filter can affect the overall performance of your venting solution but someone else here might be able to confirm that.

Worth knowing if you score one and find it reduces the effectiveness of your cooling as fiddling around with different configs might be needed.

cheers

According to the brochure a can33 will cover 2 lights, it also says a can 100 with a 840 cfm covers 6 lights

If you're running a speed controller on the Vortex, I'd go with a CAN50 and just bump the speed down a little...otherwise the 75 would be the minimum I'd put on that fan and still expect good scrubbing qualities. The larger the filter, the longer it will last as long as you keep the moisture under control in the room...so it might be cheaper in the long run to snag a Can100...

Thanks guys! I think I am going to order that Can100 from that link I posted. Yeah I have a speed controller on the fan. I run it full blast during lights on to keep temps down and turn it down at lights out just enough to get fresh air in.

Hello all,
A speed control and a large fan/filter combo will serve you better then "just enough".

I say this because nowadays everyone knows what weed smells like- it is just a huge security risk. IMO.

The speed control- for such a small price it provides many benifits.
