How big can a plant get? What limits it?

So if you had infinite root space with great nutes and bacteria/mycorhiz etc, tons of light and fresh air.. How big could it get? With year(s) of veg and care what is the biggest anyone has seen/heard of? I've seen confirmed 10 footers on here and magazines .. But could we ever get to tree size status?

What would create the 'ceiling' ? Genes? Hormones stopping growth at some point?

I just dream of a huge sativa veg'd for years, towering over a house, and then flowered to double (triple?) The height.

Fantasize with me, shoot me down, get sum science up in hur

container size will limit potential so will other vectors like available light and water so to be sure you get them really big you need to have seed that will do it. Noting no cultural method will offset the limit potential of any crop more so than the seed type...

I have seen 25 foot, I have grown many 20 foot.
I think the biggest limit is roots, big plants need them.
That and well aerated organic soil, the more the better.
I bet 25 feet is no limit, if you grew one NLD 25 feet veg under long photo period and then flowered it under fall and winter photo period, short flowering hours, you will get 30-35 feet tall when done flowering.

Sam, I believe Kangativa was growing 30 ft trees in 1/2 a season. The Madness is a beast of a Sativa from what I have seen of his grows...

I've seen an old friend of mine grow 14 foot tall Thai plants with the rare seeds he found in Thai sticks, back in the mid-70's in the southern part of NY state....
And yes, they reached maturity....:woohoo:

Yeah I get that roots and other environment things can be controlled and dialed in. I guess the real question is where will genetics/hormones stop production? Is there no limit?

I guess itd have to be outdoors unless you have a very tall warehouse/airplane hanger.

Wish I had the resources/time/space/skill to experiment

I could not get two hands around the stem, so more then a 6 inch diameter, that was on 20 foot tall plants. This one is almost 20 feet, I got over three Kg, clean and dry, it was a volunteer, from seed.
If you look close you will see the left side of the plant is not flowered like the right side, I had a 400 watt HPS just to the left keeping small clones under long light and the light effected the big plant on one side only.

Hasn't been tested yet but we will know shortly. Here are some nice examples of ones over 20 feet. Last photo they are still in veg.

i have seen pictures and read accounts of MANY 20 to 25 foot plants, mostly african sativa strains. these were single season, mind you. i don't know what would happen if you kept one in veg for a couple of years indoor under lights before flowering.does anyone have the patience for that? (i know that I don't:biggrin:) i would like to see time-lapse photography if anyone pulls it off! :tiphat:

3kilos aint shit.

yield is what's important, not how many linear feet of stem somebody can grow. plant height doesn't mean anything to me, its all about how much it yields. 20foot, 30foot, who cares. i want to see 15-pounders, 20-pounders.

Limiting factor for that kind of thing is usually genetics, followed by light, soil size, and support structure
