You can enjoy your small glance of Hell.

i would say goto the Galleria area / Westheimer, but idk what you would do...

I really quite hate it here :wallbash:

Hey.....I resent that kiddo...:fsu::moon:

Beyonce says that she has been all over the world and no place has nicer people than Houston. She is from there BTW!

And it is TRUE and when I get back home now and then I realize what a bunch of assholes live here in Florida.

This ain't the south as the North has INVADED and captured Florida.

But get some boots and a big ol' belt buckle and a western hat and go line dancing and learn The Cotten Eyed Joe and various line dancing.
If you are gay the Montrose is your area of cruising and partying.

Do not make fun of the local accent cause the rednecks will whoop your ass! We don't mind yanks comin' down and havin' fun...but not at our expense. JUST BECAUSE WE TALK SLOW....don't mean we THINK SLOW! Many MENSA in Texas and many rich people.....and if you ever have a Texas girl.......you will NEVER GO BACK HOME!!!! Because us southern women KNOW HOW TO TAKE CARE OF OUR MEN!

Enjoy Houston....but stay out of Pasadena...LOL!

Dinner at Kim Son downtown or anywhere else in Vinatown, Kim Son is the bomb though.
Try the spring rolls.

Gyros at Niko Nikko's on Montrose near Westheimer can't be beat if they are still there, or Franks Hot Dogs, also lots of used record stores and what not in the area around there.

Seafood go to Kemah on the other side of Clear Lake past Nasa either nice restaurants or fresh off the boat. Nasa tour is cool too if you are in that area.

There's a lot of oddities around to see. The Orange show is one, and theres a house COMPLETELY covered in aluminum pulltabs off Memorial somewhere, though the address escapes me, ask around.

Several of the taller buildings have sky lobbies too, one downtown and one in Galleria if they are still open.

Houston has nice strip joints. If I was going back there (lived there for a few years back in the 80"s) I'd go to one or two good ones. That is where I would stay for the entire time I was in Houston.

Kim Son is still there! it was the first VN restaurant I ate at in Houston and very good....love their iced VN coffee also...

Kemah is a good tip on fresh seafood also....I moved away in 84 and have live in Florida since then. I worked for Shell Oil there 11 years of my life in "Stinkadena" err Pasadena...

Don't miss the hydrocarbon pollution on HWY 225 though...

I guess you are callin' Vintown the VN area near the medical center there.....

But Houston is a very vibrant fun city....but be culturally sensitive because we consider Texas a country really. "A whole nother' country..."

The Galleria is overrated and expensive.

But Houston is the 4th largest city in America.

Oil used to be king there until the mid 80's.....

Ricks!!!!

I used to hit the smaller ones up north past Greenspoint quite a bit. A little more "up close and personal" than the mega stores. Also there was one on 10 just east of the loop that was always tons of fun. High 10?

You ever listen to KABF in the early 80's? I was a stand in DJ quite a bit when the regulars were unable to make it.

Saw way too many good shows at Rockefellers on Washington.

I bought some of the little cup toppers and make my own iced coffees, that stuff is TOO good in the summer. Yeah, the area I called Vinatown is "midtown" Travis, Fannin, Milam near the Med. Every block had 3 restaurants and some were open till 3 or 4 in the morning for after the clubs.

You remember a mexican place over off San Jacinto behind the jail that had no sign and you had to knock to get in? Buddy of mine lived in the old Butte paint lofts (Toxic Flats) and we used to go there quite a bit. Last Concert Cafe? There was a Ninfa's over there too but that's not it.

I lived in the Old 6th Ward near Washington and Houston Ave. Only thing I REALLY miss about Houston is the restaurants.

There are just as many assholes as there are nice people. Been here my whole life and probably managed to meet more of the assholes.

The generation above mine are some of the last genuinely cool southerners. There are some in my generation, but the rest are douche bags.

Then again, most of the people i'm talking about were raised in Oil or they're just spoiled, inconsiderate little tools.

Mainly just depends on which area you live in.

Mostly though, I hate Houston for the weather. It's hot when it's not supposed to be, it's wet and cold when it should just be frickin cold. Hell, it's been warm or summer-like several times this winter.

And what is there to do here? Clubs, bars, food, shopping and titty bars.

Houston sucks.

It's so big because of the Port and Oil.

It's like...you can do a million things in NYC and LA, and each is known for unique things and unique experiences... What the hell is so unique about Houston?

Really the only things I can think of are the Space Center, Museums, Sports and Woodlands Pavilion...

Oh and Gun shows. Which I have always wanted to goto, but never remember to.

Around Pasadena there's a bad ass dirtbike/fourwheeler place...with a MX and supercross track also a kids MX track... Dunno if it's still there though.

Oh and Raouls Italian Grill in the Spring/Klein area is exceptional. You'll think i'm crazy when you see the parking lot and outside (it's in a strip joint) but it's amazing. Used to be around Champions&1960... Screw Carrabbas. Pappadeaux is always great also, but it's a chain restaurant.

About a week ago shorelinexNYCD outdoor could have been arranged. :yoinks:

(look all the way left :p)

I don't like Shoreline that much though... the first time I had shoreline, it was shorelineXblueberry, and it tasted like a fine chocolate with a blueberry on top.

Ever since every 'shoreline' I have had tastes nothing like chocolate.

Dang you must be older to have been around since the eighties,,,
Yeah I have a couple of those drip cups and buy French Market Coffee and the sweetened condensed milk. Almost a dessert and calorie laden, but worth it.
My daughter in law An is VN from Houston.
My family has been in Texas since 1845 and if I told you who some of my relatives are you would not believe it.
I would be afraid to marry a Texan as it might be a cousin...LOL..
But I can make the spring rolls also and the dpping sauce. Fish Sauce is their secret ingredient.

But I used to go to Ninfa's on the Gulf FWY....
they opened one here and the yanks don't like mexican food...mostly Cuban food here. I don't remember that Mexican restaurant you are talking about though...my kids liked Monterey House.
Those were the days my friend!
I was young ...a union oilworker...OCAW.....1st female BTW.......my radical feminist days...

Had to teach 4,000 rednecks to accept women in the plant per Affirmative Action. Worked there 11 years and then went back to school.
Went from working with mostly men....to a career with mostlty women...

Won't go into who is more difficult to work with though...LOL

But Houston has gotten too big. The 70's to the mid 80's were the good times there for economics. Everybody was makin' good money....Anna Nicole Smith AKA Vicki was working in a topless bar in Houston because she figured out it payed more than fryin' chicken for a livin'

That is where she found her rich sugar daddy! Tragic how she ended up...did you ever see her perform? I saw her before she got the huge boobs.

unfortunately there are assholes everywhere even Houston...but it is startling to visit home after a few years and the people in general are more congenial and helpful there.

Of course the native Texan is rare these days. But I really...really do think Florida has more assholes per capita than most places.
My generation was brought up to show respect and have manners.

Yeah, I mean I agree. The generation above mine and the ones above that are sweet hearts. My generation just ruins the reputation were known for, the generations below me are really bad.

I was arrested in HOUSTON

I was arrested in HOUSTON

I smoked a joint where i was staying, then proceeded to drive my fathers van to starbuck for a cup of coffee, low and behold, I got pulled over. He asked for my insurance and reg,. I couldn't find it, so, he asked me out of the vehicle and arrested me, and searched the van, but he didn't find anything becuase I had nothing, I smoked before , PIG! SO yeah i spent 4 hrs in jail coz POPS didn't have insurance or reg on the van. at least i dint have smoke on me,. I hooked up from a girl at head shop there. took a little convincing but she made it available, thank god.. it made my yoga classed much better. It was more or less mex brick tho.

i scored a sweet honeycomb pipe from BC smoke shop (they have 3 locations and really great prices, talk the guy down!) . he told me more or less where to find bud.. took a while and down some sketchy roads with an ex-marine that kept calling my girfriend baby and once fondled her hair.
got a quarter for 120.. no name leafy dark buds but nice shiny trics... not as good as what I get up in dallas though, and not worth the hassle. live and learn.

houston is tough to find the chron...lots of schwag...but if you know the right people...

too bad i moved outa that hellhole, what 6 years ago....whew!

much better herb in austin

If you want the quality, you have to have some cake. Quality bud - called "chon" or "hydro" here - goes for around $400 an ounce and it is not quite an ounce. I went to California and bought an ounce of Cheese from a musician for only $200 and it filled a quart bag to the absolute brim with bud.

Hook-ups happen by good prior planning and reaching out before you make the trip. Remember, Texas isn't exactly weed-friendly so if you get popped, they will treat you like you tried to assassinate the President.

I've lived here for 17 years now. I don't know if I could live anywhere else, but then again, I've lived in so many other places that living in one place for so long feels like a break.
