Hot Ones

Anyone else here a fan of the online series Hot Ones where they have various celebrities come on and eat increasingly spicy hot wings? It's one of my favorite online series to watch on YouTube.

Or any hot sauce / capsaicin fans here? Perhaps some of you grow your own chilis?

The hotter the better for me, although I usually take breaks in between going hard on the hot peppers which I eat fresh and whole for videos and challenges as it usually severely messes up my stomach lol. I'm not sure if I could make it through to The Last Dab, but I'd love to give it a shot.

^Agreed, but I think the most memorable one was Coolio's episode. Or the comedian who shit his pants, I forget his name. lmao

Absolutely. The format is a great idea and the host is a natural at getting his guests to feel at ease and open up. I laugh every time someone says "You're really good at this" lol. The guests he lands are also pretty impressive, especially for a Youtube channel.

I used to love insanely spicy stuff, but I have a condition where I can't indulge anymore unfortunately.

My sincere condolences, I know plenty of other people in the same boat for a variety of conditions. As far as the link, thank you for sharing that, as it will come of great use to me as I'm currently germinating some Rocotos, and waiting on my Reaper seeds to arrive to germinate those as well. I was planning on looking for a section to post about other plants as well and you pointed me in the exact direction I needed pointed in.

I honestly don't know if I just one time lucked out with an extremely rare "pheno" of Jalapeño, or if my cannabis nutrients did something as I used boosters in addition to the bloom food, but a few years ago I had a jalapeño plant and when I ate one, it kicked my ass like I was not expecting. Never in my life had I had a jalapeño of that degree. I personally am unaware if there are any locations in my area, and if so, the cost of getting things tested on the scoville scale, but I was crying for a long time. Very distinct and different than the really hot cultivars like Reaper and Ghosts, but way more intense and unpleasurable in my experience. I gave most away because I couldn't enjoy them.

And back about your condition, I have to start watching how much I can indulge because I'm not getting any younger that's for sure, and I can't eat them like I used to. I used to be able to eat anything even ghosts and reapers with no stomach problems in my teens and 20's, but now I have to take breaks.

I ate two fresh rocotos back to back the other day on film to redeem myself, because the night prior I made a video of myself squirting Sriracha on my tongue, showing the sriracha on my tongue, and then swallowing it. I was quickly flooded by my friends laughing, and advising me to take it down as it looked SUPER sus, and upon review I realized, oh shit, these people are right, it DID look like an oral cream pie and that I was taking a big load to the tongue and then enjoying it. lmao. Never gonna live that one down unfortunately lol. But back on point, my stomach is still fucked from that.

I love hot stuff, but I draw the line at exfoliating my taste buds. As a friend said when I gave him some of my first hot sauce to try, “there’s hot, damn hot, goddam hot, and stupid hot” - which he said my sauce was: too hot even for him, or for the guy who inspired me.

I love the shit you can do with the flavors, and you can make damn near anything out of / with peppers; the heat and bite and sweat are just part of the rainbow you paint with. Never really been a fan of “dare you to X...”.

White Beard, I'll try any sauce once. I'd love to have been able to try yours, as "stupid hot" seems like it would be nice if used in moderation to things such as stews, spaghetti sauce, chili, etc...

And you're correct about the whole experience and everything that can be done, all the creams and sauces that can be made. One thing I like about Hot Ones, is finding out about the different sauces, and how some contain things you wouldn't expect, such as mango, pineapple, mustard, ginger, etc...

It's also really interesting how some of the really hot peppers have an initial tropical fruit like sweetness. While peppers are fruits, most people incorrectly label them as vegetables, but some of the hots really are fruity, and then boom, your few second experience of tasting a delicious pepper gets destroyed with heat. The sweating, the tears, the deep breaths, the mouth under the faucet (which doesn't work), the milk (which temporarily works, but gives you the shits). For me, I find that yogurt does the trick to put the fire out, so does buttered bread.

I also can't deny that I do enjoy the "high" that can be achieved. At first I was startled when I first experienced the high everyone said you could get. It felt like I was about to start tripping, but luckily it was just an enjoyable endorphin rush, a little light headed, short lasting, but overall fun.

I am told to stay away from it while I continue to undergo intestinal hell, but here's what's been round here lately and is supposed to be really hot

Carolina Reaper

After consuming just a little tiny bit I can see a change

I love hot and spicy, but it no longer loves me. If I over do it, I pay for it. Plus the wife has zero tolerance for even mild (by my standards) heat. So I rarely do the hot stuff and focus mainly on flavor over heat. Getting old sucks.

I knew a chick that could eat Habaneros like they were bell peppers. It was a hoot to watch this skinny chick go toe to toe with big burly guys that thought they were tough. She'd pop a habanero and just grin while chewing it, while the guys were turning red, getting hiccups and gulping water. And she could eat one after the other.

Yeah the reaper is intense, but I can handle it dried and fresh but I pay for it for a few days afterwards.

The same guy who bred the reaper recently bred something else, currently under the name Pepper X which has a way higher scoville rating than the reaper.

I find it kind of "cool" how the pepper guys are doing what breeders have been doing in a way. As of lately it's all about the highest THC% and now with the pepper guys it's all about the highest scoville, lol.

My mother is the same way. She just eats any type of hot pepper for a snack on the regular, but she can't handle wasabi.

I love to watch those. I'm a Weird Al fan and was looking forward to seeing his. It was disappointing. He only took a tiny nibble of each one. Totally wimped out.

Bill Burr absolutely owned it though.

I wouldn't be surprised to find out homegrown peppers are hotter than commercially grown. Looking it up real quick, someone said heavy watering produces larger peppers, but reduces the capsaicin content. Not sure if this is true, but it makes sense that large scale growers would be more focused on weight and eye appeal than heat.

I definitely miss spicy food, but still grow sweet peppers. I'm all about fermenting lately and just made a nice condiment out of orange bell peppers and garlic. Fermenting vegetables gives it a nice, sour tang, so at least I have that lol. I'll probably try to find something unique to grow for next summer.
