With vertical. You can use the whole light. You can get more plants closer to the light. Also you don't need a reflector.

Yes.......Bare bulbs gives the opportunity for plants to be on all 4 walls on the floors in donut style or with stadium or bookshelf setups with increased plant numbers up the walls , instead of just underneath horizontal reflectors on the floor.....

Yes. With the measurements I have seen on here. Most people get more square feet of screen using a verticle set up. While keeping more buds closer to the bulb. With a cab or tent you can get more usuable square feet in a smaller foot print. Which will lead to more yield. If ventilation is set up right you may not need a cool tube either.

And you don't have to use a screen. I was just using that as an example to help you understand. I plan on doing a vertical sog with 4 x 55w PL - L in a cab that is about 31 x 20 7/8" x 35"h. Each light will be circled by 4 or 5 plants. They will be no more than 2 ft tall. With these lights which are 22" long. I will have light on the plant from top to bottom on one side. It works out to about 52 Watts a square foot. Which should work out well since all the light isn't just from the top. I should get dense binds from top to bottom since the whole plant will be the same distance from the light. Instead of if it was horizontal. If it was horizontal I would lose lint at the bottom due to lack of penetration.

If its not to hot now it wont be to hot with the bulb verticle. If you can control the temps in a horizontal set up. You can control the temps in a verticle one. The light isnt going to change how mich heat it puts off because of how its orientated... You would put a fan under the bulb blowing up on the light. Then have a fan extracting the heat from the top.
With proper ventilation (room air exchange 2x + per minute) you can get your plants much closer to the bulb.I have a 400w HPS hung vertical bare bulb in a 3x3x6 tent...one bud is as close as 3"-4" from the bulb and has a slight bleaching from all the light it gets,but she's fat and rock hard dense.
I think you may find your canopy temps a little cooler with the vert bare bulb,seeing as how hoods trap and reflect all that radiant heat back down to the canopy rather then just rising to the top of the grow getting sucked out by the extraction fan.

You get much less heat buildup with a vertical bare bulb, compared to a horizontal bulb in a hood. That hood acts as a big heatsink, soaking up heat and holding it in the room, whereas the vertical bare bulb allows the heat to rise to the extraction with no impediment.

From floor of tent to tip of 400w bulb = 41"
From soil line/base of plant (for plants on ground) = about 34"-35"
From soil line/base of the indica plant on the milk crate = about 23"-24".
I definitely tried to take advantage of as much vertical grow space as I could and depending which plant I run cuts of next (monocrop) I'll probably flip to 12/12 a little sooner as four of these plants are quite tall for just one 400w HPS...
Plant in left front corner = 43"
The Indica up front & center = 28" (virtually no stretch)
Plant in front right corner = an exact 4 feet
Plant in right back corner = 46"
Plant in left back corner = 44"
With better training I can get the bulb further down in the canopy but it's to late for that now...and I'm just learning vert this round,round 2 monocropped should be a helluva lot better.

I am trying to visualize it... All I can picture is them all packed around the bulb?-do you spin your pots? How many can you fit in there-5? I have 8 monsters jammed in my 4 x 4 tent right now lol

Im always up for change, I am always trying to find the best possible way to get more yield lol. I am still kinda hesitant though. Do you think I could still make it work? I have 3 90w UFO's in the back corners and front right, and a 180w UFO beside the 400w HPS right now

Vertical usually employs only 1 HID bulb in the nude. It shines more light in a larger pattern, and stays much cooler. Math says you get a bigger footprint around the bare bulb.
A reflector absorbs quite a bit of heat ( if not air-cooled of course), and only shines on a 2 dimensional surface.
You could circle your 8 plants around 1 bulb and build a screen, or "weave" your branches together to make a "wall of weed". All the underbranches and popcorn buds will appreciate it
* You could just go up to the thread search and type : vertical ..... and read some Life-changing journals
