Homemade Dog Kibble

You're gonna need a KitchenAid or a meat grinder or something like that to do this

This was my first time, spur of the moment with no recipe, but came out pretty good.

I just used some beef scraps that I was gonna throw away, some dried oats, and some vegetables (and fat from the beef, since it's winter)

This is what I did:

About 3 handfuls of Beef scraps (plus fat)
2 small handfuls of dried oats
1 decent sized potato
1 carrot

Ground up the beef, fat, and oats together, which came out looking like sausage guts. Then I minced the carrot, and chopped the potato and threw it all in a pot with some water

I just boiled and kept it stirred until it turned to mush, then mixed it as good as I could and let it thicken on low.

Turned into paste/porridge basically

Spread on baking sheet and cooked for approx 30 mins at 350 (guessing at the time). The reason for this is so it would not freeze like just giving them the wet food would. Didn't matter though, cause they didn't stop eating till it was gone

It was a hit with the pups. Might use a little cornmeal next time too just to see how it effects texture. They loved that shit though

If I can find somebody who hunts I'll pay them a couple bucks to bring me a bunch of deer meat scraps and stuff like that, and just make a gigantic bag at once. That'd be way cheaper than buying Purina, etc, and much better quality. Most kibble doesn't even have much meat anymore, mostly corn. Dogs are not cornivores, goddamn. But I guess they are all made in Asia these days, huh? SEMANTICS! Somebody should tell them the difference already

Sounds good, and as long as the pups are happy.

Try using cooked (or soaked rice) rice, instead of cornmeal and run it through the grinder too.
Doggies get way too much corn in their diet these days, and besides, they love rice.

Thanks for the DIY dog food recipe!

I feed my dog Alpo and other brands.....though I know that crap is about as nutritous as the packaging it came in! (or as healthy as Mc Donalds...hmmm...maybe not that bad) though most meals we add meat, rice and other left over.....and anytime we eat fruit he makes sure he gets some too

it's important to soak and rinse all table scraps/leftovers with warm water to help get rid of the salt, give your dog a little exercise and shampoo him two times per month and your dog will maintain a nice shiny coat.

well the cheaper dog food is mostly all corn, actually not even corn but corn husk, it's all basicly filler / colour and the small percentage of meat is probably testicles and pig anuses and blood.

at pet stores they do sell good dog food but it's crazy expensive, like 60 bucks for a tiny bag, they even have organic dog food but you'd have to spend a lot of money to feed your dog.

the big grocery store brand name dog food is all crap, like pedigree etc.

iams/ eukanuba or whatever is suppose to be decent dog food but they have better shit than that.

Gross yummy, I luckily had a meat processing shop close by and got most of my dogs food from there.(deer pig, cattle meat on bones etc..) Most the time my dog was eating better than me? Plus the owner would bring free stuff to my dog.He asked permission first. But i lived in a rural area.So it worked out well.I'd post a pic of her but don't have any handy..

confederate- How old's the pup? Indoors or outdoors?

"Diamond" is also a good store bought brand. Just a couple bucks more than Purina, and the first ingredient in their puppy food is LAMB instead of damn CORN.
That's what most everyone I know who raises pits feeds their dogs. Probably can't find it at Walmart, etc though, look at your local farmer's co-op.

But yeah, you can find cheap cuts of and even organs like liver for cheap. Should be able to get liver for about $1 lb
