homemade air cooled hood!!!

I made an air cooled hood today,heres some pics,what do you guys think?

Not bad. Maybe tape a temp. probe underneath above the bulb and see what your temps are. I would definitely keep an eye on it for a while. What are you going to use for a reflective surface?

looking good, wouldn't it have been better to use metal as a base though? rather then firewood lol, i've seen some homemade metal reflectors and it would need much of a modification to make it air cool...

Unless your using a 150 watt light or less, or using a high cfm rated fan to vent I wouldn't feel safe using that as a reflector. Too many things can happen in a grow room, it's not worth it IMO.

Not knocking you for trying to make your own hood, good on ya for that. I don't know if you could salvage that or not. Try looking in the roofing section of HD or lowes and find a roll of thin metal sheeting. I imagine you could layer the inside of your hood with said material and it might help w/ fireproofing. Heres a pic of my hood using the same thin metal sheeting.

Remember that even with the fire retardant material you will get conducted heat through the material to the wood underneath. So you should check underneath the material frequently. Good luck, watch it closely and then reconsider.

Sounds like your getting a little grief Chongs! We just don't want to see you make a big mistake. It's just not worth taking the chance. Use your wood reflector as a template for some sheet metal . A pair of metal snips & a few sheet metal screws is all you need!
