I don't think its worth the extra 50€. You will get better vents on it,although the new classics's have 200mm vent on top to.

I say go for the silver model, as the increased reflectivity of the material will result in a yield increase. It would only take a tiny increase to cover a 50 Euro difference, so even if its a barely noticeable increase it will be worth it in time.

Either one will be a good tent though.

i dont want to buy darkroom secret jardin.
because there are 2 different models - street edition and darkroom-
i have to buy online and i dont want to be defrauded.they may send me darkstreet although i bought darkroom.i will not be able to send back because of shipping cost(i will buy internatioanally )
therefore, homebox silver is only way for me,because homebox silver has only one model and all of them is same quality.
thanks

Why not get the growlab?

Why not get the growlab?

The Growlab is somewhat of a joint project between Secret Jardin and Homebox. They just hit the market and look decent enough... There is a full write up on them at BGHydro.

I talked to steve at everest garden supply, he said they are pretty much done with the darkroom line and the growlab will be their flagship model. he said a few DR owners reported things like the zippers failing and pinholes, so they teamed up with homebox to make the best tent on the market. I've ordered an GL145 and am stoked about it.

nlvigour why do you go around advertising the Growlab tent?

Why recommend a tent that is unproven in the marketplace that you apparently don't even have any personal experience with?

That tent doesn't have anything to do with Secret Jardin other than the fact that an old Jardin distributor is the company behind it and that it appears to be a Jardin ripoff right down to the model names.. GL120? rrrriiight...

Anyways, looks like the Growlab tents are already getting bad feedback from long-time members of the community..

It's not totally light proof as far as having the tent somewhere dark you can see there's light inside. The clear plastic windows are pretty cool but the Velcro doesn't close the flap 100 percent. I was expecting a little better quality as far as that goes.

Yea.. Sounds like the Growlab tent is a cheapened version of the Homebox tents, considering nobody has made those kind of complaints about Homebox tents. I wouldn't know myself, but like said, nobody in the world is saying the Homebox tents are not light-tight.

Everest Garden Supply stopped distributing the Secret Jardin tents at the same time their own Growlab tents became available for sale - seems pretty obvious why they really stopped selling the Darkroom tents..

The zippers were fixed in the 2008 models anyways - sad the previous distributor who knows for a fact they were fixed long ago has to act like that is why they switched to their own tent when it seems they really just want a bigger piece of the pie.

Wasn't trying to advertise...

Wasn't trying to advertise...

Hi Mr. Bongjangles,

I apologize if it seemed liked I was advertising. Truth be told I just copied the pictures from (BGH) as this is what they now appear to be carrying.

By the sounds of their website it appears as if the Secret Jardin tents will be abandoned once the current stock is sold. That's too bad as I personally favored their door openings and regard them as having set the bar for all other manufacturers to compete with.

In addition, I had asked the local supplier in my neck of the woods to carry them. I've even recommended them to friends. One of whom you gave props too. In any event, my intent was not to belittle or sideline Secret Jardin as I found the product excellent and can easily be verified by your posts.

In addition, I've always regarded you, as one of the most - if not the most -knowledgeable ic member with regards to tents. As an aside, I should also thank COBO and Clowntown as they did exhaustive comparisons also.

Your threads have always been highly informative and I thank you for that. You've clearly pointed out in a multitude of posts the advantages of the Secret Jardin tents over many of the competitors. You even had to endure an endless barrage of insults and insinuations from (sundance kid) who just couldn't reason or see the logic in your posts. Despite that, you didn't let it ruffle your feathers. The outcomes speak for themselves. You are a highly respected member and your opinion is valued.

As for the growlabs.... Like you mentioned... they have little feedback as they are still too new. Some reports have been a little critical... But hasn't that what this community has always done. Point out particular areas of concern so that they can be improved? I believe that the sooner possible deficiencies are singled out, the better our chances are that such drawbacks can be remedied.

In closing, I just wanted to assure you that I am not a shill. My intent was simply to show the new growlab which one of the largest retailers carries as it is essentially the new incarnation of the homebox with improvements borrowed from Secret Jardin. ie. thermally insulated, highly reflective, ect... Personally, I would also favor any distributor to maintain the Secret Jardin line. Unfortunately, I am in not in a position to influence policy.

Since we are on the subject... Why not have retailers carry the new Hydrohuts. I know many members had serious problems in the past with the tents and (deceit & temporary ignorance) from management. However, I'm hoping that after such a dramatic setback that efforts have been doubled, trippled, whatnot to come out with a much improved and superior product than they had in the past. Afterall, the "past" out-gassing fiasco severly crippled their credibility - we know what happened to growers - and I'm sure a repeat is the last thing they want.

I do not support one company over another. Though personally, like mentioned above, my preference lends itself towards Jardin tents. My friend and I - who put ourselves in the dr120 with zippers closed couldn't see any pinholes. No problems with the zippers either.

The pic of the growlab was just to show the new stocked being carried by a retailer.

As for hydrohuts.... I welcome all competition. Hopefully, such competition will lead to further improvements and hopefully lower costs for all consumers.

Anyhow, I hope my explanation is adequate.

Kindest Regards and best of luck with your grow, NLvigour

Thanks for the kind response. Hard to argue with that lol :D

We need to clear up some things though, as you're pushing the Growlab tent and giving false information about the Jardin tents at the same time. Perhaps that doesn't make you a shill though, sorry if I jumped to conclusions on that one.

OK anyways..

Jardin tents are still for sale at numerous retailers, and will be after BGHydro is done selling them. 4Hydroponics.com for example. Further, BGhydro themselves appear to be the owner of the Growlab Horicultural website, so there seems to be some kind of direct relationship with the company. The registrant is listed as "BetterGrow Hydro, Inc." It is thus no shock that they have stopped selling Jardin tents in favor of the Growlab tents.

To be clear though, I like BGHydro, done business with them in the past, always nice people, and when there was a problem they handled it like champs. That to me is the measure of a good company. It is the Everest Gardening Supply cats, out there basing on the Jardin zippers and other issues they know have been fixed long ago, who I consider shady.

Perhaps you can understand why it set off the "bongjangles warning" when you started your post saying that the Growlab tent is a collaboration between Jardin and Homebox - that is *just* the kind of incorrect information that plays into this also incorrect idea that Jardin is going away in favor of the Growlab tent.

Oh yea - the Jardin pinhole issue is real. Happens more when you take the tent up and down repeatedly, but I've found one on my dr150 that has only been setup once. Its no biggie, they can be fixed with a dab of paint and are not even an issue if left anyways.

As for Hydrohut.. I can't say why they have not been stocked up, but I'd suspect a number of retailers were turned off after the off-gassing issue. Here's what the moderator guy on the BGHydro forum had to say though:

"To be honest, the feedback from the Dark Room has been so overwhelmingly positive that I'm not sure we will pick the Hydrohut up again unless enough customers ask for it, but it doesn't look like that is going to happen."

So there's the take from BGhydro at least. They are distributed by Hydrofarm though, so I'm sure somebody will be selling them soon enough.

No Worries...

No Worries...

Good day Mr. Bongjangles,

Thank you for your response. I'm also glad that you addressed the relationship between (BGH) & growlab.

Despite some criticism being leveled against this new growlab I feel confident that the good people at (BGH) are genuinely interested in providing the gardening community with quality products. So hopefully, this new brand of tents will have fewer deficiencies than the models which were previously carried.

I had mentioned in an other thread that most people on IC including myself had not even heard of Everest Garden Supply. However, based on the info from (BGH) & (EGS) was sort of misleading in mentioning the relationship between Secret Jardin & Homebox. At least you cleared it up. Thanks.

That was why I tried to qualify my statement with the term "somewhat". In any event, I'm pleased to hear that some retailers will continue to stock the Secret Jardin Line and that you have stepped in to clarify.

Once again, many thanks for your time and continued contributions. Myself, as well as many others find your posts accurate and relevant.

Wishing you the best.
