Homebox and lighting...

afoaf is interested in the Homebox L, which measures 39.5" x 39.5" x 78.75". He is wondering if a 600 watt hps is overkill for this size of box, and further, what size extraction fan/carbon filter set-up will be required to keep it cool. He is contemplating using a Gavita bulb with a reflector built into the bulb - in the hope that the absence of a reflector will allow the heat produced by the bulb to rise away from the canopy before being exhausted from the Homebox. Your thoughts would be appreciated.

A 600 is damn near perfect for the cab. Question is, is a 600 overkill for you? I used to think of myself as a heavy smoker till I came here. Now I'd say moderately heavy. My 250 has me buried alive. I could probably shut down for a year. I accidentally dumped 1-2 days worth of cleaned weed the other day. My response was the vacuum cleaner. Po Freezer's gots too much weed to be crawling on hands and knees.

A man deserves whatever toys he can afford but, if you can provide 3-4 times your need on half the electricity, I'd give it a thought.

600w is PERFECT for this box. I kinda wish I bought this instead of a DR120 cuz it's 3'11" and needs a 1k but i put a 600 in it...

and hahaha I love your comment freezer boy. but yeah.. it's true a 250 is def enough for my needs, however I smoke with alot of people and love to bake alot of differnet treats!

I'd recommend a 250cfm extraction fan if you go with the 600. It'll get mad hot in there with anything less. It would be auspicious to set it up extracting from the hood.

I'd say FreezerBoy has a point, but we all know that it's "to each his own" here - and maybe a 600 is what you need.

Anyway, if you're looking at fans - I've had great luck with these:
S&P In-Line Fans

Baked and I just read about your reflector-bulb. Not sure which would run cooler, but I've heard cool-tubes run well in cabinets (they remove heat pretty efficiently). I've seen hoodless fixtures in cabinets as well - just not of the 600W variety. Maybe someone else can chime in.

Im getting a DR80 and i was debating over a 250 and 400. i want a 400 but i only need a 250. after i saw the 250 thread i decided to go with a 250 but after lookin around a 250 aint that much cheaper so im going back with 400.

for that size id want to go with 600 but you prolly only need a 400. :2cents:
