So after doing the math and find out it wasn't close. I took a trash bag lined multiple different size commercial pots. Used a known 1gal container and filled each of the commercial containers.
First up hydro store(supposedly top quality) even stamped 2 gal. Math came to 1.62 factoring in the slight taper to the bottom. Added trash bag filled from know 1gal container. Barely over 1.5gal.
Next up Amazon 3gal pots, same math an water volume test, 2.2-2.3 gal
So I got out my food grade 5 gal buckets that I use to use. Did my math an cut 5" off the top. Bringing hieght to 9-9.5", with 11" at top an 10.5" at bottom.both math an actual water test they hold 3.2~ gal(not completely filled to 9' more like 8.5"). While also being the same height at as the fake 2 gal buckets.
Way cheaper than buying "3"+ gal pots, more sturdy in my opinion an over all better size. Shorter an wider for more head room for the plants. I can post pics of interest. One thing I would recommend is food grade 5gal buckets.
