HOLLOW-TUBE DESIGN!!!!!

I have been thinking about the lighting recently and found myself leaning towards the vertical lighting idea.
I believe it to be more efficient, practical, and a lot cheaper than its counterparts the horizontal reflector.

My idea is of a hollow-tube design for my vertical lighting. It will basically run on the principle of the cooltube but does not utilise the glass surrounding the bulb. Here is the pic of the rough idea, Please bare in mind this is just an idea i thought would benefit growers as well as myself.

It has a fan underneath the bulb lets say 1' or 1'1/2 down blowing air straight up towards the bulb connected to a wire frame that is connected to the bulb socket. This is then connected to ducting which will either have a fan right above the bulb or a powerful rvk to suck the air from 2-4 HOLLOWTUBE setups. I believe it will be cheap to construct and the plants will benefit from it being there while still utilising 85% of available light.

With this design im hoping to place the light closer to the plant then before while using vertical lighting solution.

ANY ADVICE/THOUGHTS/IDEAS are all very WELCOME

Bless

i've seen many designs like u have there before, and it DOES utilize the glass tubing..,,
that contains the heat momentaraly then your fans (in your case)push it back and suck ithe heat through your ducting then exhaust.,if your feelin' it..go for it. :joint: .me personally i would go horizontal with cool tubes (or without)
i believe u do get more effeciency then vertical positioning.
eitherway i still plan on trying a vertical setup with like 2-3 hanging 600watts hanging in the middle of trees .someday. please let us know how it turns  out..gl

With horizontal lighting your are exposing about 30% more lighted surface area to the canopy, except in very few cases like stadium grows horiz is the way to go.Nice idea though

I have also read that the heat does not dissipate fast enough when you use a horizontal reflector and you actually loose light from it spreading how the light upwards towards the reflector so it takes twice time to reflect the light. I have also seen many growers utilise it. Its just an idea but to me it seems feasible. I will definately be using vertical lighting, with this design time will only tell. Thanks for your input fellas.

My $0.02...

You might or might not want to try playing w/ the following variations on this theme:

A) roll back the intake tube so the bulb is sticking mostly out of the tube, but bump up the tube airflow rate - better cooling than no tube without the problems you get from cooltube of light loss, usually around 10% if I remember right.

2) Mounting the whole thing vertically, base down. This is recommended to extend overall bulb life as well as keep heat from pooling up in one spot.
