:yeahthats

I was thinking 250 watts on a 12/12 max. Maybe a little higher? Thanks in advance.

go until the breaker flips ;) get a big pc case; say it has a 1000watt power supply for gaming and running those quad sli graphics cards; but for a one bedroom it depends on how much space you want to dedicate to growing; 3 400's each in a 2x2 tent can be fun... give you lots of room to play around with different flowering times and whatnot; keeps everything light proof; if you're in a one bedroom unless u want to go small don't bother trying to hide everything; just keep it all in the bedroom; also could though in a larger tent with a t5-48; not that big of a power draw; bout the same as a 400... a big plasma uses lots of power; as does an aquarium if it needs a chiller.... honestly the massive gaming rig computer is the best way to go though... two of those cuz you're a world of warcraft addict or something would probably fly... but i might do 1 600 and some t5's or 2 400s and a t5 if i wanted to keep it reasonable... just do 18/6 instead of 20/4 or 24/0

but i have a friend who lives in oakland all utilities included and he just runs lights until the breaker doesn't flip all the time... landlord is down

i'm a power hog myself.... gotta maximize space

Personally I would stick with a 400watt, just to keep totally inconspicuous, but that's just me. A 600 watt certainly isn't out of the question. Also, 18/6 wouldn't make that huge of a difference if you wanted to veg.

are you on standard bulbs around the place? swap them all out with fluoros and you won't even see a blip from a 400. 1000 or 2000 is very doable however. Lots of people are real power hogs. Esp things like electric dryers or ovens.

I am in a 1 bedroom, I just moved my bed so I can use the whole room, as closing the plants in in the closet automatically adds like 6+ degrees, I wouldn't worry even if I was drawing 2k watts, see... my computers alone draw like 1.5k and I know people with 4x as many as me, really the only concern in an apartment is when your AC is screaming all day, although heat is not illegal it could add to your paranoia. I just built a 6ft DIY pvc light stand ( allowing ~4ft of vertical growing space between the buckets and cooltube. Built for $40 too ( I hope it holds up! It is so far ), perfect for placing in the center of the room directly under the A/c vent. My grow is 600w cooltube ( which draws 800+ after you add on fans, pumps, etc.. ) plus some cfls and pumps in my laundry room, 600w adds like $15 a month, the AC to cool that for me with all this shit generating heat is like $80+ ( total bill over $200 )

In a 1 bedroom apartment I run a 600w and 400hps about 300 w in cfls, a 800w Port a/c and a few fans........thats just my grow, not to mention my pc tv, A/c ect

Ive run 3/1000wts in a 1bedroom. 1k plus 400veg would be no problem...

TONS more problems growing in an apartment than the watts you are using

Yeah like people with sharp noses and carbon filters failing. . .or springing a leak on a 55 gallon hydro system. . . or your cat pulling the blinds off the window and exposing 20 plants to the mormons living next door. . .

If you're paranoid or live somewhere where hydro bills can be insane (like I do currently at nearly $.38/kwh) then 400 is a very nice starting point, it won't produce a lot of heat, you can do a moderate amount of plants, and you can get away with less in the way of cool tubes/etc.

I'd recommend most beginners start with a 400. Basic bulbs are available for that wattage just about everywhere. if you feel like you can do more, then by all means throw 1-2kw worth in there. It won't make anything look suspicious but the heat/etc will be a bit more to deal with.

My 250 has me buried alive. I can't begin to keep up with what it cranks out.

dude if LEO is checking they can just say $100 seems high and raid you anyways, so no. i would not worry about fluctuations of a few hundred unless you told all your friends you are growing. think about how much weed there is how available it is, everyone grows, including cops

As long as you can keep ambient temps down without having to turn the central a/c down past 70f I wouldn't worry too much.I've been doing apartment grows for the last 7+ years.I've been using a 400w HPS in a 2' d x 2.5' w x 5.5' h cab for flowering with a 4" 172cfm inline centrifugal both ventilating/cooling my grow cab and cooling my light.I also use two 2' two bulb T12 fluoros for clones and the such with a DIY mini bubble cloner.

If you are that worried just be sure to turn your water heater down to 120F (every apartment I have been to has had the water heater set to like 140+ degrees),turn the refridgerator/freezer down (so it uses less energy).Replace all the lights in and outside of your apartment with energy saving CFL's (100w worth of light for only 28w of energy consumed is nice!).

Do you know how much it costes where you live per Kwh?

I live in Fla. and looking at a friends bill we are charged an energy charge of 5.569 cents for the first 1,000 Kwh and 6.569 cents for every other 1000 Kwh's after that. The fuel charge for the first 1,000 Kwh's is 5.6 cents and then the fuel charge for every 1,000Kwh's after that is 6.6 cents. There is a customer charge of $8.03 and his total electric cost is $199.39 then we have to figure in gross receipt tax of $5.11 and municipal franchise fee of $13.03 so the total would be $217.53

This month alone he used 1605 kwh's.

I don't know how much you know but you may be asking yourself how much is it just to run a light.

Well we'll use a 400w HPS as a reference....

400w / 1000 = .4kw

.4kw x .05 (cents) = 0.02

0.02 x 12 hours = 0.24

0.24 x 30 days = 7.2

so we'd pay a energy charge of $7.20 to run the light but wait,we need to figure in the fuel charges!!

Where I live we are charged 5.6 cents for the first 1000 kwh's soooo.....

.4 x .056 = 0.0224

0.0224 x 12 hours = 0.2688

0.2688 x 30 days = 8.064

so we're looking at a fuel charge of $8.07 every 30 days. Now we add the energy and fuel costs....

$7.20 + $8.07 = $15.27 every month for just a 400w light on 12 hours a day for 30 days, including energy charge and fuel charge. After all that you have to figure in gross receipts tax and municipal franchise fees (usually an extra $20.00 to the bills total).

Wait a Fing Second Lysol. Can you please provide links where ANY GVT is monitoring power bills and then obtaining a warrant. I like many live in states where grow lights are legal and sold openly. If so how can a high power bill be anything but high power use by legal equipment?

Now the question was how much to run in a utility included area. If our friend was to run a 600W 24/7 in Veg and a 1Kw 12/12, he would only be running 1.1Kw 24/7. Add in a few energy efficent light bulbls, make sure you DON'T use an electric dryer and your elec bill should be VERY AVERAGE! But who the F cares? Your electric use and the appliances you use are legal, your only issue is if a warrant will be issued and absent probable cause of SELLING no USA judge should sign off.

So keep you aroma ZERO and don't open the door unless the say "I have a warrant and will kick in the door"

You are doing nothing illegal or probable cause simply by purchasing electricity.

Peace, :joint:

PS My answer is 1Kws fit to the room AS MANY AS FIT!!!!!!!!!!! Also it is $.12USD in my land. If I could pay $.05 the answer is 4 1KW in EVERY room and I sleep with green light :joint:
