High temp shutoff

I have a 240v 50amp light controller running 4,800watts , and i was wondering if i just hook up the high temp shutoff to the trigger cable? If so, it seems like it would be a clusterf*#@. Cuz my timer is on my trigger cable. I would have to plug the timer in the wall, then plug the high temp shut off unit into the timer, and then plug the trigger cable into the high temp shutoff unit.

I was also pondering.... If your temp gets too high, its because there is a problem (i.e. undone ducting, small a/c, faulty fans etc..). So the high temp shutoff unit shuts down the lights until conditions are back to acceptable levels, then turns them back on, right? or does it just stay off...? anyway, assuming that it turns power back on, the problem that is causing the high temp still exists and will cause the unit to continually reboot the lights, and then after a while (when heat builds up again) it will shut them down over and over again. This would for sure make your crop herm. I dont visit my grows for 3-4 days on end sometimes and if this happened i would be too late to catch it. Is that how this unit works, i have no experience with these...?

So do they make a unit where you can have some flouro's hooked up to turn on while the hids are turned off by the unit...?

A few weeks back I spotted some kind of aquarium type timer which would run one appliance during the ON and another appliance during the OFF...sort of like a toggle timer. It was on ebay so probably junk. But I'm assuming that's not gonna be any good for 4800 watts. (I have no idea)

Hook up your hi temp shutoff to just the HIDs, and leave the fluoros on a straight timer.

I think the best solution to this I've seen is in this thread, which discusses exactly what you're talking about, using high temp fuses. This will shut off at a certain temp, and have to be reset manually. This will give you the opportunity to find the problem and fix it.
