you shouldn't do that, its not a good idea better to try to find one of those twister floro lights that just screw into any socket and use that for now till about 2 weeks or so and then put it under the h.i.d.
I put my seedlings under a 400w metal halide straight after they pop, and they do just fine, grow like weeds You do have to keep them in a propogater though, only about 3 pounds for a medium one, fits 24 seedlings. This keeps the humidity up, if u just put them under the light without the propogater, they dry up and frazzle within a few hours. hope ive helped
I put my seedlings under 250 w HPS straight away, never bothered to do the fluoro thing. With the amount of light HPS can deliver to plants, there's no stretching - they keep nicely low.
Never had a problem with lack of humidity either. In, for example 16 oz cups I don't ever need to water more than once in three days. Keep in mind that MJ likes to keep its feet dry. The dry moments are in fact quite essential fo rthe plant, during it the plant develops a nice root system.
Break them in slow & they will be fine / i would keep babys at least 36'' away (ask me how I know) for a few days & then slowly lower as far as U can get away without burning them / I put the glass on one of my hoods for the first week to cut down the heat & intenisity some /
the first 2 weeks are crutial - IMHO - Unless your going right to flower I would get them up & going before pouring on the coals -
I'm testing that theory now as we speak...I've got 8 popping and I'm putting them under my 400MH right from the get-go. It's at my safehouse, I need to go check on them and see how they are doing. I'll let you know how they progress and maybe take a pic or two and post on this thread if it's ok?? Peace. TJ
I have still got them under 4 40watt flouros and the edges are starting to turn brown. They are in 16oz cups with pro mix and using a dilute rooting fert.
I just trashed a few others that were started several weeks earlier, that started doing the same thing.so i changse potting medium and tried again.Do you think it could be dry humidity?? as i am heating with wood and it is dry. Idon't have a humidity guage now but have 1 comeing.I really don't want to stress and loose these as they are fem seeds.[skunk special] Help anyone!!
In the past I grew seedlings under a 250w MH with no problems. Just dont' get the light to close, or you will cook them. I learned that the hard way, it only took one fried seedling to realize that to far is better than to close at that stage.
I have grown seedlings under both HID and fluoro, and IMO fluoros are better. With HID you have to keep the light to far away which causing stretch.
It's funny you should say that about your clones. I'm trying that as well. I'm a bit limited as to what I can do in my growroom, so rather than flouros, I took cuttings, put them into a humidity dome and into the corner of the room where they can get light, albeit not too much. I've also got my seedlings under my lights, about 28" below it. So far so good, but it's only been 2 days since they popped...I'll let you guys know how it turns out. As far as the leaf browining on the femmed seeds, it could be the nutes. I don't give my little ones anything at all for the first few weeks. Good luck.Peace. TJ
I used to use a light meter (pretty cheap), but now I just go from experience and eyeball it.
Just make sure your lights are easily raised and lowered and you should be fine.
Clones must be kept moist on the foilage and damp in the roots. I've even cloned outdoors (in the shade) with no problems, so I figured that the grow room, at a GOOD 50 INCHES and OFF CENTER, with my dual spectrum 800 Watt and an oft-misted clone should be no worries, and I was right.
I never use any heating pads or covers/domes or even special cloning medium, just extra sponge rock and clean supersoil always do the trick for me.
