High Ceilings, need help with support.

Hey ICMAG, I am getting a new house and am upgrading my grow space. It is a 3 car garage, aprox 15x25 with ceilings anywhere from 15-20 feet tall. Probably more towards 20 though. Anyway I am trying to figure out how I will hang my manifolds (for ventilation, one for intake, one for exhaust) my fans, and support my pants. I was thinking of running some kind of lines for support for the plants but what about the heavy stuff? Thanks in advance.

20 foot seems high for a garage in a house. I would attach all the heavy stuff to the ceiling joists. The manifolds would get attached using plumbing strap.

I think you need to get a measuring tape, because a 3 car garage would be bigger than 15x25 and not have 20 foot ceilings.

I take it there will be some type of wood trusses/cross-members that tie in the side walls, correct?

You can use "drop-down" supports.....they use them in garage door installations, or you could just use some 2x4's to make additional supports where you'll need them....Should be an easy fix. :joint:

EDIT:

15 x 25 seems small for a 3-car.....I'm sure you have the dimensions incorrect, no matter though...It's the height issue you're dealing with.

GL and congrats

Thanks guys

Thanks guys

Yeah you are right about the size. The actual garage is more like 40x15, the are of it I am using to grow is more like 25x15. The ceilings are is high as I say. Don't know forsure but at least 15 feet. There are no bare rafters or joists, its all drywalled, no paint though.

Well, the drywall had to get screwed to something.....mark out yours studs(while you can still see them) with a 4ft level from the ground to however high you want to go(I'd go 8 ft).

I think I'm slightly confused as to what your plan is....are you going to build a "walk-in" type box in the garage ?

If so, you can reinforce gro-room roof with additional wood where needed.

Soorry if I'm way off base here brother....just throwin shat at ya to help out. :D

Basically I am not using the whole garage, just two of the three car. I was planning on partitioning it off with panda film and 2x4's to separate grow from not. I will only need to put up one wall, but then I am left with the ceiling problems. I didn't want to build a ceiling, lust throw some panda film over it. I cant do any heavy framing, only stuff that can be removed at some point. Yes I can screw into the studs behind the drywall, that was my plan, I am just trying to figure out how to support my heavy equipment without building a full on ceiling. My actual grow will be aprox 25x15, with one 3000 w vertical tower (2 hps, 1 mh) and will eventually have two towers (6000 w total). Still not quite sure what to do about support and separating the grow room from the rest of the garage. I need a space to be able to work so that is why im not using the full garage. If I ever go to three towers I will use the whole thing. Thanks again, hope I was clearer.

So you are going to build some type of wall with 2x4's ?

If that's the case, you may need to run a couple of stringers (2x6 or 2x8) across the width of your space at the top of the wall.

The benefit will be two-fold, support for both heavier equips and the panda film.

As far as how you attach to the exsisting framing, use 3-1/2 " drivewall screws and leave them backed out by 1/2 " or so.

That's an awfully large space to NOT be doing some full on sidewall/ceiling construction bro....

I think you may change your mind on just hanging sheets of panda.

GL my man, hope I helped some.

Peace

EDIT:

If you change your dimensions from 15'w to 12'w, it would make things slightly easier/cheaper from a materials standpoint...If that size still works for your space I mean.

Yes I can change it to 12, whats the difference? I assume its because wood only comes up to that length? The reason I didn't want to do any side wall, ceiling construction is because I have no experience with it, and If I wanted to go to three towers using the whole garage all that work would be for nothing. Well I still have a couple weeks to figure out exactly what I want to do. You definitely gave me some good pointers though.
