A local store here is about to start carrying a portable testing device that tests both potency and terpenes and retails for ~$700. Early comparison tests show the THC results as being extremely accurate although the CBD side still needs some tweaking (was close but not as accurate as the THC). It has a $100 sensor that needs replacing every 200 tests. I forgot the name but I'll update after they start carrying them and I pick one up.

utest ripped off the other kits.
Chimera posted some stuff a while back about a color test you can make your own pretty easily.

I saw that a member here had tried this on cbd leaf material and it worked by indicating a purple stain.

How to detect the presence of CBD, for home growers

http://www.madchat.fr/esprit/textur...uana_Chemistry-Michael_Starks_2nd_edition.pdf

Page # 127The Beam Test aka Beam's Test

If you read the section "Colorimetry" in the first paragraph on Page #127 you will see a simplified method for detecting CBD using a spot test called "the Beam test"

The needed reagents are:

5% KOH(Potassium hydroxide) in 95% ethanol
(5g KOH in 100 ml 95% ethanol)

Petroleum ether, Naptha or other organic solvent to remove the cannabinoids from a sample of your choosing.

Place 1-2 grams of your sample flowers in an oven until dry @ 150 degrees Celsius for 5 minutes. Extract in a small glass vessel (shot glass?) for 10 minutes in 10 ml of your Petroleum ether, other organic solvent, naptha, etc.

Filter and remove the leaf material using a coffee filter or similar, catch the liquid extract

Take 1 ml of the extract and dry on a white porcelain dish like an egg cup, saucer, or similar. (Gently heat the dish to evaporate the liquid phase of the extract). You will have a dish with remnants of resin leftover once the liquid has evaporated.

Place 5 drops of your 5% KOH in ethanol solution on your plate, and wait about 10 minutes. You will see a distinct violet/purple/pink color from samples containing CBD which could be Chemotype II or III plants - in the case of CBD Lullaby they will be only Type I and II plants- THC only plants (chemotype i) will not show this colour.

It's a relatively simple test and anyone can do it, you just need to order KOH from Amazon or your local soap making store and pick up a solvent from your local hardware store. The ethanol will probably be the most difficult thing to source, but it is available as "Everclear" or 190 proof ethyl alcohol from your local provincial or state run liquor store, depending on your location.

Hope that comes in handy....

Everybody get ready to source connections. A new standard in CBD ratios has been set that classifies it as hemp.

Suzy-Q/59:1- released by Project CBD (genetics unconfirmed at this time) Lab certified at 15% CBD & 0.25% THC.

I saw this new cut available at Harborside HHOAK thx for the info. Any idea on yield compared to acdc or r4?

I haven't finished it yet but so far it's structure is amazing which is the one thing I don't like about ACDC/ValentineX. If it finishes like it's starting I'll be retiring ACDC soon.

Tested a few more OG-X and found 2 more type III females. So far out of 14 tests I've got 9 type II and 5 type III. Still got another 5 to test and a friend is about to pop some as well.

So stoked. Finally got around to getting the rest of the batch of 18 OG-X (1 male and 17 females) tested and ended up with 10 type II chemotype & 8 type III(in bold). I also had 5 more males that I didn't test

So cool my brother, lots of potential talent in that bunch. I would seriously love to follow a grow journal on these!

Results of CBD Patient Survey

Results of CBD Patient Survey

this is from project CBD:

Key Findings

1. Medical marijuana patients are using CBD-rich cannabis for a wide variety of conditions, including serious and incurable diseases, and conditions that may respond poorly to FDA-approved pharmaceuticals. Over 12% are using it to address the side effects of cancer treatment.

2. Patients with psychiatric illnesses, mood disorders, neurological diseases and CNS injuries favor CBD-dominant cannabis medicines. Patients with pain and inflammation favor CBD-rich cannabis medicines with more equal levels of CBD and THC.

3. THC matters. Patients using the 4:1 CBD-to-THC were the most likely to report a reduction in pain or discomfort, and improvements in mood and energy. Patients using the 2:1 CBD-to-THC ratio reported the greatest improvement in overall wellbeing. This finding is consistent with scientific research indicating that CBD and THC interact synergistically to enhance one another’s therapeutic effect.

4. CBD-rich cannabis appears to be remarkably good at ameliorating pain (particularly in patients with fibromyalgia, headaches and migraines), and at improving patients’ sense of wellbeing, particularly for patients with PTSD.

5. Given that people using CBD-rich cannabis for “general wellbeing” are the only group who reported a decreased feeling of wellbeing and the most likely to report a worsening mood, it's possible that CBD products may not be appropriate as a supplement for people who are otherwise healthy.

Very Impressive numbers Huel! You have a real gem with your cut.

I used to think it would be good to have a plant that had a 1:1 ratio of cbd:thc. But due to the different rates and temps for decarbing cbd and thc.....I am now thinking its better to have an all cbd plant like yours and an all THC plant and mix them to the preferred ratio. At least for ingestible meds. I hope that makes sense, I just smoked some guerroberries:blowbubbles:

i'm having the same feeling PH!

i love smoking the flowers of the 1.5:1 thunderstruck cut, but for adding cbd to products like edibles, topicals, sublinguals, and transdermals, it would be more convenient to have a "CBD" concentrate i could use to tailor those products' profiles.

Thanks buddy! We're on the same page, since THC is rich in 99% of stains it's nice to be able to just mix CBD meds to a desired ratio.

I just got another test result back today, finally tested some Perkins Cut oil for terpenes. I knew it was going to be extremely rich in terps, but I'm a little surprised it tested so high. 5.82% total terpenes and 3.9% of that is myrcene, pretty crazy. The lab said it was the highest terpene percentage of any extract they've tested to date....
