HID cutting off

Ok guys Ive tried to search for the answer couldnt find a defined one....my light has 2 times shut off by itself ...once during a thunder storm...and once this mourning for no reason (seems when my ac kicked on it happened)...its a 400w HTGSupply mh/hps....im using the MH for vegging now and im on 18/6

What do you guys do when this happens? I read somewhere you needed to let it cool before turning it on...does this mean just the bulb or the ballast too? How long should i wait till i turn it back on? Does it mess up my lighting schedule if the lights were off for 20 mins while it cooled? Does it mess up my light when it turns off and on when the electric goes to shit?

What do you guys do when this happens?

from what I've read, MH should cool for 15-30min before re-lighting, and we are talking about the bulb. wait till its cool to the touch. make sure to wipe the bulb clean so your oils on your hand dont cause the bulb to blow. if you can get some light on your plants during the colling down period, that would be best, but dont worry about your light schedule. keep your normal on and off times. How old is the bulb, might be time to reaplace
hope this helps

HPS cut off when they've reached the end of their life...I'm not sure about MH and especially MH conversion bulbs.

If it's cutting off when things turn on...you have a lack of adequate power problem. If I was SURE it's turning off when something else comes on...I'd fix that. If I wasn't sure...I'd ditch the MH and put my HPS bulb in and see what happens. If it cuts off too...you have a bigger problem than the bulbs.

You can just leave it...when it cools enough it will relight...

Its only done it twice and once was in a thunderstorm...Im just wondering when it turns off, then on, then i turn it off to cool and turn it back on again is that whole process gonna fuck my bulb up by making it weaker or shorter life....and i was wondering does it mess up my plants lighting cycle

Lamps get more sensitive to momentary power fluctuations as they get older. Ibjamming may be on the right track with the age of your lamp. The reason that lamps need to cool is so that the gases can condense in order to reignite. If the lamp has restarted, there is no reason to turn it off and allow it to cool again - that is one more needless start. If it continues and your lamp is relatively new (using too old of a lamp for growing is inefficient), then you should check your voltage and see if it is marginal. If it is too low, check your neighbors that come off the same transformer. If the problem is common to all of the houses connected to that transformer, the utility can adjust their taps.
