HGO Goes SOG, Coco Multi-Feeding Madness

this is pretty awesome... you managed to get a nice batch of clones too they all look healthy!

what % mix did you go with the coco/perlite? how come you chose not to go with the clay balls in the end?

how often are you watering them at the stage in the pics? i see you dont have the drip lines setup... Don't you like the topspins for ease of setup?

sorry for all the q's :D

It`s been proven time and time again that each and EVERY plant grows differently under horizontally reflected light compared to bare bulbs hangin amongst the plants , and as always regardless of horizontal or vertically oriented lights , canopy development and thickness means everything for bottom line returns by end of cycle....If it`s 4 heads instead of 1 top cola per plant needed for the gpw`s then so be it...

Deleted account for the last time due to the know-it-all kiddie growru`s round here , and only here for the most part for PM priveleges with old friends and no other way of contact , but wanted ta stop by and show respect since you`ve not been around much lately....

Good luck my buddy.....Hope yas kill it with yer SOG`n self....Reminds me of Heath`s old setups with adjusta-wings hangin everywhere above tables and tables and tables...

Peace....Freds....:ying:....

Heya and thanks Fred, we shall see how I do.....if I hit 25oz per tray I'll be very happy considering it's my first run.....any extra is a very nice bonus.

Where did you get those manifolds ?????

lookin great brutha :tiphat: from vert to horizontal SOG .... should be interesting !!! i'll be over here in the corner checkin it out :smoke out:

Hey Dan, thanks man. The manifolds were bought from a local hydro shop, I think that they are actually used for air lines. I really like them because the outlets are slightly bigger than the usual manifolds that the shops sell so they don't block up as much plus there's 26 outlets on 'em which is perfect for this SOG run, although I've been using them for a while now with the vertical grows. Good to see ya.

nice hoods bro...I rock those as well...and a few 48" parabolic's too...I find the parabolic's work well with short squat indica plants and the vertizontal works nicely with the Sativas to penetrate the canopy.

I'm really really happy with the vertizontal hoods, the old style parabolics with vertical bulbs really baffled me because, yes the reflector itself was top class but it is flawed because there is zero direct light hitting the canopy, whatever genius flipped the bulb around with these hoods deserves a good pat on the back. The light coverage is excellent

Looking good mate!

Cant believe a bird got jammed in your exhaust! Madness.

A total shocker mate LOL, I heard a funny noise coming from that fan near the end of my last grow but I couldn't figure out what it was, I though a bearing was going in the fan but it died away after a while and I never thought anymore about it until I was changing the filters and then BAM there's a freaking dead bird in the fan....I was shocked.

Hey Gonz, always a pleasure pal. The clones are for the most part pretty uniform but there are a few runts as I never got taking enough clones, I'm going to take double the needed clones for all future runs.

I used a 60/40 coco/perlite mix, I added lots of perlite to make the medium more airy because these gals will have very, very little veg. I will be flipping them when they hit 6" so they don't really have a lot of time to grow a massive rootball as roots stop growing around 1/4ish way through flower.

I didn't go for the hydroton in the end because I have made a lot of changes and going full hydro is a huge step for this size of a setup, there are just too many variables and things that could go wrong with a new setup so I decided to stick with what I know best and to grow in coco with multi-feeds. Once I get 3 runs done I will be switching everything over to hydroton.

At the minute I'm giving them wet/dry spells to let the roots grow out through the pots, I will be watering them once per day from tomorrow on. I've never used the topspin dripper setups because I've always built my own which works out a lot cheaper and I can modify it to suite the grow but I have friends using the topspin with great success.....just not for me, I like to get hands on lol.

Have you got the grow finished? What happened to them pics? hehe.

Any more questions people, fire away.

Peace All,
HGO

I'm happy to watch another HGO coco thread! and horizontal this time hoooooray!

Great choice with the Vertizontals HGO, they're wonderful reflectors aside from their massive size that can sometimes get in the way of wall fans in smaller rooms.

You know those plant yo-yos for holding up massive colas that stakes/trellis couldn't handle? They clip right on to the lip of the vertizontals perfectly.

Vertizonals and dead birds, you know I'm in for this .

You're a natural born killer D lol, welcome to the show bro, it's always a pleasure.

Welcome 215, glad to have ya here bro, I know you're used to grows on a bigger scale but we shall see what I can do in the near future lol, as soon as I get enough cash I'll be doing a Snype and bailing out to the sticks.

I freaking love these reflectors 215, they're the best that I've seen on the market for light distribution and yeah they can be a pain in the ass trying to get between trays or keeping fans circulating. At the minute I have a big floor fan for each tray that is pointed right at the bulb, I've got 2x 10" filters, a 10" intake, running at night and I'm still having damn heat issues lol, I tweaked a few things in there today and if my temps aren't below 85F then I'm installing a third 10" filter.....these hoods hold a lot of heat under 'em. That's very smart about using the yoyos on the vertizontals, I will have to put that into action....that's if my buds get that big lol

Well fellas as I said at the beginning of this thread, I am supercroppin' all these clones so I can get multiple heads, I'm aiming for around 4 heads per plant. It's a step aside from the usual SOG grows with mainly 1 cola lolliepop'd but I am following doneit's advice because I've seen the shear power of his skillz and they're very impressive, impressive enough for me to switch everything up and go full horizontal SOG.

Here's a few pics of how I like to do it, because there are 150 clones to be pinched ever few days I had to have a little help, a grow friend Don Jaun Mantis gave me an idea ages ago, he uses pliers to supercrop his gals and I really liked the idea so I utilized (stole) it lol thanks DJM. Since the big room holds 100 Cheese this was necessary, Cheese is a very old cut and the stem is very woody leaving it near impossible to pinch even 1 cut. Anyhow here's how I do it.

Vice Grips
Wrapped with rubber gloves and duct tape

Cheese cut before getting pinched

Bend the cut over and give it a careful little pinch
picture.php

The result, this wound will heal in no time, making the stem much stronger

Here's a StarDawg that is recovering from an earlier pinch, notice the heads aiming for the bulb.

I really like the supercropping method, it doesn't stress the plants out too much and it really shapes them into beautiful specimens in no time.

I'm hoping to get them all into flower by Friday, I installed the drip system today so they will be getting 1x feed per day from tomorrow onwards, I'm aiming for flower when they are 6 inches but some clones are stronger than others so we shall see when they'll be ready.

Any questions fire away guys.

Peace,
HGO

I works great doesn't it lol, I like the grips because they are spring loaded so it helps me not rip the clone out of the pot. Welcome for the ride bro.

He's back online again, he has a new account on the island....I love his trees, he is a big wool head as you know and he has that shit dialed in.

How many times do you plan on pinching the girls?

It all depends immortal, I will be pinching right up to 14 days flower, after that it can screw up the bud production, once stretch kicks in they should recover pretty quickly so I will have to pinch more often.

 You're so modest HGO

haha I don't know man, I had a lot of problems with the aero cloner this run and I really think it's gonna hit me yield wise but, you're only as good as your last grow lol.

Peace,
HGO

"Your only as good as your last grow" in my case that means that I'm currently shite lol my last grow was a disaster, I even got bud rot to boot.

Looking good HGO liking the new set up. Subbed.

Thanks pal, good to see ya, grab a chair and have a smoke :)

Hey HGO!!

Been a minute since I've been around. Glad to see you're how you're coming along with the new setup.

You gonna be using Donit's pvc dripper "rings" like you had discussed when planning to use hydroton? Thinking about trying 'em myself maybe on the next go round.

That Kamikaze bird was some crazy stuff for sure!!

Be well, my friend.
