Hermi's earlyish into flower, Light Leak (fixed now); Advice needed

After exhausting the search function here i am with the situation.

Last night to my shock horror i found all of my plants starting to hermi on me. There is 18 in total, 7 of them are in day 19 of flower and the other 11 are in day 12 of flower.

These were plants run from seed; they had all been identified as females a week or so into flower, but my c***sucking motherf****** dehumidifier had mysteriously developed a light leak out of it somehow. Ive used the same dehuey for ages and i thought there was just one light source which id covered with black tape. Anyway that seems to be the source of the leak as i know the rest of my room is solid. That problem is now gone and the room is 100% black again.

Anyway i spent hours with tweezers picking them all off last night; each plant had anywhere between 6 up to approx 15 male flowers on them. Im fairly sure none had opened yet as its still early in flower (thank god), and im going to have another go tonight to make sure i didnt leave any behind.. I cannot afford to scrap this crop as my jars are empty and i need to do mother plant selection so killing all is not an option. I have clones of everything so the next round should be ok.

Question is with all the male flowers removed do you guys think the (girls) will be ok and not ruin my crop with seeds or any other problems? I guess a couple of seeds wouldnt be so bad but a whole room of seed would be devastating.

Any advice / comments / thoughts is HUGELY appreciated as im kinda stressing hard on this f****** s*** situation.

many thanks in advance

Hey Darth, I have had a couple plants go hermie on me during grows and found that if I caught them early enough (before the pollen sacs open) I could remove the sacs carefully and the pollen wouldn't spread. I would keep checking on the plants to make sure no new sacs appear but as long as you remove them quickly you should have few to no seeds in the bud. Good luck man

Hey thanks buddington i appreciate your reply. Ive just spent the better part of 4 hours tonight with a bottle of wine and some tweezers methodically picking the rest off. i will keep a real good eye on them and im hoping now the light leak is fixed it will help stabilize things and keep them hermi free. Ive never had problems like this before it really foking sucks man!

take care bro

I doubt that all your plants hermied especially that early over a small light leak,90% of herms are genetic and I'm betting yours are too.You may have to pick male parts off for the entire grow

Foliar feed compost tea twice a week. It will help a lot of things, but right now it will soak up any pollen. If you do foliar feeds a ritual then these kinds of things won't matter much.

@ Floridian: I doubt its the genetics although i can't really say for sure you may be correct. The fact that every single plant showed males balls says to me lightleak being the culprit. The genetics are top notch; medley mix, bogbubble and blue kush from BOG.

@OrganicOzarks: The buds are starting to form now so im not really going to be foliar feeding at this stage. In general though i do want to get into my teas so will def keep that in mind for the future. Thanks for the tip

Another important fact to mention that these plants have all been stressed a bit from high temps as well as a light leak. This has been easily my worst grow in terms of problems, its really breaking my balls (no pun intended). I will keep updating the progress because hopefully it will help some other people if they find themselves in this very unfortunate situation.

I foliar feed up until 2 weeks before harvest. I have yet to get any sort of mold, or mildew. If you have the correct air flow you can foliar way deep into flower. I don't know why everyone is so scared of foliar feeding in flower.:wallbash:

so far i can only say from my two grows i had hermies every time. they say its better to take the hermie away from the other plants more so when you want to keep the other free of pollen.

you are still able to smoke them they can be very potent though. and this way you have some smoke while you wait on the rest.

my teacher told me not even dry the bud in the same room where you grow or the others can be pollinated easily.

the seeds i had were feminizid therefor they are more proned to be hermie.
the last grow had hermies bad but i kept them all till the end together and still only have a few seeds in there now not bad at all.

my guess is its the strain dont think i have a light leak

I agree get as many male pollen sacks off, your going to miss some no matter what. On the bright side you should have some fem seeds to mess around with.....I've made some nice crosses on by stressed female herms before...

snip them out and finish it out. There is nothing you can do besides that.

Exactly, this is the conclusion i came to as well.

Ive spent hours inspecting each branch on each plant its a bitch of a job but has to be done.

Organic i foliar sprayed the entire room down tonight as i remember reading somewhere water kills pollen. Didn't have time to do a tea or anything as im not set up for that but hopefully just water helped get rid of any pollen.

There were one or 2 balls that i missed and when i removed them tonight there was a bit of pollen in them. So f*** knows how badly that's going to get me only time will tell. Im not going to stress anymore on it as ive done all i can.

The worst thing is i still don't know for sure what caused every single plant to hermi on me. There's like 4 different strains so how can it be the genetics that just doesn't seem plausible to me, but again i could be wrong.

I'll keep updating as hopefully this will help some other peeps later on

cheers

Sigh.

If i removed the hermi plants away from the others id have an empty room.I appreciate you trying but next time try reading the original message.

thanks

I am surprised to read that ALL of them hermied!

But unless this is a cash crop it is good to know that seeds don't hurt your weed. I am always breeding and rarely ever have sinsimilla _ I promise you I'm not hurting the high at all
