Herming Bubba Kush - need advice

T

THCV

I'll get some pix up here soon, but I have 5 large Bubba's that ALL seem to have little nuts hanging below the lower buds. They are in a room with 15 other plants, and all the plants including Bubba look great--no stress, temps are great, nutes, everything is pretty much dialed in, so i am baffled as to why she hermed. (Maybe it's an S1??) I ran this Bubba once before without ANY seeds, but i never checked it for nuts so i don't know it they were there--then again at manicure i would have seen them and i didn't.

Anyway, I am at day 33 of flower. Are all my buds going to be seeded? I will spend today hunting down and cutting off all nuts, but is it too late? I didn't notice any pollen at all. Could they be neutered nuts?

I am so depressed. Help me. Thanks.

THCV.

Hi,

Just spray H2O2 + water, it will oxydate your pistil thus making them unable to catch pollen. It will last several days meanwhile cut every staminate flowers you see...
After, just keep a good watch after your girls...

You can try some feminization spray which are said to stop the formation of staminate flowers but I have no experience with it.

Just my 2 cents
Keep growing

Bummer.
It must be an S1.
Mine is rather stable fr a kush hybrid.
Or else you had a problem in the growroom and didn't realize it.
But I doubt that. Well if you ran it before with no problems.
Maybe someone looked in there during the dark period a few times without telling you.
Some people are idiots like that.

But mine looks different then yours.
So maybe it is an S1.

I just sprayed them down with plain water and then proceeded to remove every nut I could find, outside of the flowering room. Oxidate the pistils? Like, kill them all early? Is that really safe?

There was no visible pollen from any of them--no powder i could see. Does it sound like these are sterile male flowers? I sure hope so. I have pix that I will upload later today. But boy did she smell good while I was working. Top colas are gorgeous, no nuts at all. S1? Damn! Although, I have read on here that the original pre-98 Bubba cut is more prone to herming.

None of the other plants have hermed at all (TW, C99 and SDK), so I don't think it was a light leak problem of any kind. Plus, the Bubbas were spread evenly around the room. Nah, seems to be the cut, somehow. Bummer, cuz I love the smoke so much, but I might need to go to SDK only pretty soon-massive yield, roots in 1 week, fastest growth, no herms or any other problems. SDK is a dream plant.

Anyway, thanks and if anyone else has insight please chime in. Pix are coming. They'll scare you.

ok, some pix. There were two kinds of male flowers, one kind was a cluster along with females on the main stalk like this:

and the other kind was a sort of dual-nut configuration sitting at the base of some of the lower, smaller buds, like this:

Again, any insight appreciated. I removed everything i could see.

i picked everything i could see. many seemed to be open, but i didn't notice any pollen at all. so i'd like to know: how do male flowers like this work? If they were open, but no pollen, would they eventually drop pollen, or does an open/no-pollen mean they are sterile?

Let me put it another way: should i be stressed out that come harvest I will find seeds all over my crop? Or am I in the clear now that i removed these apparently pollen-less pods, and i can rest easy?

Thanks.

Original Bubba's...

Original Bubba's...

Hey THCV...the Original Bubba Kush is a stress-induced herm...I'm not exactly sure what its 'trigger' is...heat, cold, ph, nutes, etc....but...yer cut is putting on tha exact type of herm flowers tha Original is known to put on...also, might I add, very nice pics o' them ballz...excellent examples of the kind & type of herming tha Bubba is fond of.

As fer tha open ballz...thar's a good possibility they've dropped thar pollen already...and yes those ballz are often fertile...thus far I've only seen them pollinate tha lower buds...so it kinda depends on tha circulation in yer room...good going on tha H2O spray-down...that's exactly what I do ta stop any stray pollen dead in its tracks...works like a charm. :whip:

I believe Bubba's herm trait stems from its, 'possible', ChemDawg parentage...fwiw.

They hermied pretty bad.
I have had that happen with some Sensi's and they were sterile.
Yours look the same, pale and dustless (male parts).
I do see a few swollen calax's.
Try pinching a few and see if there's anything in them.
You may have not noticed last time because at chop those things would have been shriveled up and fell off like an old growth leaf.
Good luck my friend.

Nspecta and Legit, thanks a lot. I am feeling better about this. I pinched some calyxes that didn't end up having anything in them, but I am only at day 34. Anyway, i feel pretty good about it--good to know that pale, dustless pods are not really a big deal--and good to know I have, without a doubt, the true Original Bubba Kush. The buds are still big, frosty, stinky, and wonderful. I'll update this thread when i am done with manicure, let y'all know how it turned out.
