Hermie??? please help!!!

As I was watering my plants today I noticed on one of the plants small banana shaped "things" coming out of the tops of some of the buds... They are definently reminescent of male preflowers so I'm kindof freaking out. What's your opinion on what this is? The only thing (aside from genetics) that I think could cause a hermie would be a light leak and I'm 99% sure that's impossible. Anyway, if it is a hermie, can i cut the male flowers out??? Will the female calyxes still continue to mature??? I only have six plants so if I chop this one it takes a significant chunk out of my harvest. Anyway here's the specs and pics, thanks for your input.

600w glass enclosed digital ballast hps
day 21 of flowering
vegged for 8 weeks from seed
ak48 from nirvana
soil is f.f.o.c. with 40% perlite in 3 gallon pots

This is a close up of the same bud vvvv

That does look like a male bananna. Usually those ones arent the ones you need to worry about. It the ones that form where the buds meet the branch that tend to be the pollen droppers. Since you already know its a herm you should mist/spray it down with water to try and neutralize the pollen. Then pick off the pods and keep watch on it. If it gets too bad I would yoink it rather than take a chance it seeds the rest.

yeah dude - definete bannana - if it was day 56 it would be less of an issue - day 21 is way to early in my book.

do all your plants show this? if not I'd cull this one and just train the others to fill the empty space.

yea man..don't be scared to kill one off...the others will yeild better becasue of the extra 1/6th of light dispersed amoungst them....but..having said that...try just taking off the poofter bits...but if it keeps spreading piss it off..the ealier the better...

If it's just one banana at the very top of the flower there, that's a good one to watch
because it isn't hiding there deep within the female flower cluster.....i wonder if it will
break open and spray pollen dust or if it will be sterile.....one male flower is no big deal
but now is the time to be very observant with all of your buds.....use tweezers to
gently pry flowers apart if you suspect more bananas....as time goes on, more resin
will develop.....so, if there are more male bananas and they happen to split open and
shed pollen, the pollen tends to almost totally stick to the bud from which it originated......this has been my experience, anyway......the later in flowering, the
more pollen grains which will stick to the bud from which the banana originated and
you will get seeds on that bud but really no other flowers in the room would be affected......

i'm not saying don't worry or don't quarantine.....if you have an extra room and an
extra light a quarantine would be fine......

keep us informed!!!

if theres only a couple is it okay just to get some tweezers and pull them off? will the bananas come back or will the plant go back to being female?

Wow thanks for everyone's quick and helpful advice...
Tomorrow I'm going to mist every plant with h2o just to be sure no rebellious pollen is floating around in my room and also vacuum and clean the grow room. I'm going to take the renegade female down to my lab (kitchen) and carefully take off those nanners and see what happens over the next few days. I've decided to murder ruthlessly if the situation gets get worse (will 22 day old trim/bud still make good hash?). Anyway, I'll keep you all posted and we'll see if we can salvage her. It's only one of six so I think I'll still yield a decent amount.

Thanks Verlite for stopping in... you're an incredible grower and I've learned a lot from reading your threads. By the way I was curious if you have an outlet (like seedbay) for your strains? I'd love to grow out some HolyGrail, sounds really tasty, excellent contribution to the cannibus family.

Everyone keep checking in and we'll see how it turns out...

A hermie bud can be cut off, a new one will grow. Cutting down a whole plant for an isolated case of male flowers is a bit radical, although in early flower a few male flowers can pollinate an entire growroom. You risk having a few seeds. It's still a less evil than spider mites or mold.

A lot of things can cause stress, that can cause hermaphrodites. Genetics is a likely answer, heat stress or overfeeding is another.
Some say bad breath cause hermies. Have you been panting heavily while watching your buds (lol)?
