Hermie father

Hello :)

I kept one big Afghani male to make some seeds. One week after it showed male flowers i found also some female flowers on several branches. I found some light leak in my setup, so it might be the cause. Do you think I can use the plant as a father? I heard that if hermaphroditism is caused by environment offspring will not be hermies?

I wouldn't use the pollen. That shim sounds pretty mixed up with all this occuring within the first week or so of showing (even under Light Leak conditions). You might want to let that one go.

Trash the hermie. If it hermied that quick it will get passed on to the offspring. There is enough hermieness in the MJ world already.

use it. dj short had some interesting things to say about hermie dads. i had a hermie c99 dad that has made 4 diff crosses with no apparent hermie offspring

Males that turn to female will produce pollen that produces mostly female offspring, if I remember correctly, something around 90%. DJ has indeed said that male hermies make useful fathers. The hermie trait is not passed on in these.

TORC - Do you by chance have a link to any articles or online info from DJ in which he discusses the use of hermaphroditic males? Sounds like an interesting read.

Peace

In his book (pamphlet) "Cultivating exceptional cannabis" DJ Short says that he has found "reverse herm" males can be an indicator of potency sometimes, he goes on to say that the presence of female pistils on the male will inevitably result in higher females (because there is more chance for selfed seeds)....

...in my experience it can also be an indicator that the females from the same pool u got the males in will herm...I once had an Amnesia Haze x Buddha's Sister male do the same thing and i tossed it because I already knew some of the fems hermed...

*If you're experiencing low potency & high male to female ratios in your hybrids I might consider using the reverse herm male, if not I might look for another stud...

Thank you for all answers.

Anyone else tried to breed hermie male and has grown offspring already?

Its the second time I have Afghani hermi male, but last time I didn't consider breeding. Now I'm running out of seeds and I have no more males. I have never seen Afghani female hermie in my plants. My seeds originate from Nirvana (both male hermies from original seeds).

Females from this offspring have hermie tendencies (seeds made from afghani hermie male and good skunk female) :/ Hovewer I made some other nice growing cross from skunk and ww ;)

Regards.

Hello mexx,

Too bad on the hermi ladies. Out of the amount of seeds that you have grown from this cross, what would the percentage be for females turning hermi?

Would you say there are any environmental issues that could be causing them to hermi, or is it a direct result of the hermi father?

Good luck with your Skunk x WW!

Peace

Take the branch showing female as a cutting and see what you come up with.

I don't grow my hermie seeds now. I only tried them and I had one female that showed many male flowers, so I don't know the hermie females percentage in the seeds. Hermie female is not caused by environment (it is my first female hermie). Only the hermie male (father) was kept in bad environment.

Cool, thanks for the info. Too bad you had a bad experience with them. I was interested to see what came of them.

Take care
