How do you know if a plant hermaphrodited?

I'm no expert, but if you see some banana looking things growing from the buds then you could chop them off very carefully not to rupture the pollen sacs. I have read that a few banana's can be plugged off, but if you start to see a lot then I would probally get that plant out of the flower room.
