Hermaphrodite Question

Okay, so I was inspecting my ladies tonight and noticed something bad. It had a small ball growing in one of the flowers... my assumption.. a seed.

Well I scan more and more and see that pretty much every single one of them has them as well. Some smaller and deeper inside of the plant than others.

I am positive there has been no males so it must be hermi... and the only thing I can think of is there must be some sort of a light leak but I thought I took good care of that. And the strains are top quality so.. I just suck at this point.

My question to you all is what do you recommend. Should I go through and dig out all the little baby seeds I can find (they are tiny at this point) or just let it do its thing. Some have quite a few buried deep in them.

Also, most seem to be growing with a pistol hairs coming out of them.. Is that normal for a light stress hermi? Maybe a neighbor has a male?

Any insight and recommendation would be appreciated.:wallbash::1help:

Mercilus,

If they have a pistol coming out of them it sounds like they are reverting back to flower. So either the light leak is fixed or your're not looking at a seed. A picture would save 1000 words.

If you're 15 days away from harvest you can chop them and take your premie buds for what they are, or you may use Dutchmaster Reverse in conjunction with Penatrator and it will stop the herm in its tracks.

I will try and find a better camera... the one I do have will not take high enough resolution pictures to make any sense of what im trying to show.

The "pods" are a light green compared to the actual bud itself. Some bigger than others but look like mini seeds in the more developed ones... They do definately in a lot of cases have white pistol hairs growing out the tops of them (the pods).

I don't see hwo they could be anything other than seeds though. I dug one bud open out of curiousity and found lots (maybe like 5) tiny little pods not very big. but definately little round balls. They again scrape out very easily with a toothpick.

MOst people who grow for years dont know there are 2 types of hermaphroditic flower types.....

I think the type most people think of are the ball types.... these normally happen in the crotches....

In plants this type is called an imperfect hermaphroditic flower.... that means the plant has both male and female type flowers but the flowers are either male or female....

The second type, the type I think you have are flowers which have both sexes.... normally a female plant with a banana not a ball...

A normal male flower is what we think a flower looks like....a flower the has petals which open revealing the structures we call nanners.....

I think the balls or imperfect male flower has the potential to do the most damage....

The perfect type or nanner type I find much more rarely causes any seed....

I suspect the moisture of the surrounding female parts prevents the nanner from drying and releasing pollen....

I do know that mollesting those male nanners can cause seeds....... as my friend geo points out.....

One point I should clarify....

Inside every female flower or at least most there is a embryo seed....

Dont mistake that for a real seed....

You can remove one of the preflowers and you should find a tiny embryonic seed in most or all of them....

hmmm, well I hope I just have embryonic ones....

The one that alerted me to the problem was fairly decent size (about 2/3 the size of a normal seed and on the very top of a bud. it knocked off very easily and was not really nestled too much inside.

I will let things go and see how it works.

Also, I may drop up and buy some Dutchmaster Reverse in conjunction with Penatrator

I just reanalysed and I dont think they are the embryo seeds... There is one that is protruding slightly from the bud itself. with a hair growing out of it. Its a small ball with again, a two pistols coming out. It is lighter green than the rest (how its easily seen). It knocks off with little effort.

This is happening all across the board.. They are definately wanting to surface!

Here is my best attempt at pictures

I guess you can sort of see them.

Thanks for everyones input.

Final question just so I am clear.

Because my seeds are growing in the bud itself and have pistols growing out of them, does that mean I was pollinated or that I may have just had stress induced hermi?

I can find no male flowers whatsoever, just bud with seed(lots of seed inside some, although pretty small at this point).

And finally, should I harvest now while its not full fo huge seed or let them develop into large seedy girls?

"Large seedy", but fully ripened girls are going to be way better and more potent than premature buds. You are going to carefully grinding all your buds now anyway. Actually, from experience, it is way more of a pain in the ass to spot all the mini white seeds in a grind then just pick out some large obvious ones.

If you have that many seeds, then either your window is always open and there is males outside nearby (doubt it), you left a male too long (you wouldn't have premature seeds at this point though), then the only conclusion is that there is, in fact a hermie in there. Look for neon yellow bananna looking things. I guarantee you will find them.

Is anyone able to direct me to a good photo archive that may have pictures of these "nanners". I am searching all over and am failing to find anything but pistols n buds.

I've seen this thing happen when some plants go into advanced flowering. How long have they been? It's kind of like a false pregnancy in dogs. They might not be real seeds. Maybe it's time to harvest.

Here's One

Here's One

This is the best I could do for ya.The nanner is just above center and if you squint while standing on your head you can just make out the tips of hundreds more.I still choke up thinking about it.One of the finest herbs I've had to date.
I wouldn't chop yours yet. Wait a little and see if you see more male flowers appear.Just my :2cents:.
Peace
