HI

My LL as i mentioned has automatic sprinklers set up in the back yard and she wants the sprinkler guy to come and turn it on...Can anyone help me out and tell me what i need to do? I cantt have anyone in my basement at this point

Check if the sprinkler controls are in the basement, first off.

If they are, you can probably figure them out.
They wouldn't be locked, and there's usually a set of instructions on the panel that you open to get to the controls.

Set them up yourself if she tells you when she wants them to go on.

the controls are outside, but i was told i need to locate the water valve in the basement first....i dont even know what it looks like. i tried to locate it, but im not sure what color it would be, what it looks like, etc.

It comes directly out of the wall, it would be a copper pipe with a straight handle about six inches on it. It is cold to the touch and the wall would face the street.

Hope that helps, relax you can do this but I would worry about smell if I moved them into a bedroom so be careful. You may not notice the smell but others might

Sounds like you might be better off just moving it temporarily. Smell shouldn't be much of an issue if you light some incense, potpourri, aromatherapy, etc. If you can't find it or aren't sure, then they may need to come in...

if all it is is a valve, you need to get a flashlight and start lookin... only so many valves in your basement. hot water, cold water, outside water etc.

NOW, ALL other valves should be OPEN. i would think only your outside sprinkler valve would be closed. if you locate a valve in question, turn the knob COUNTERCLOCKWISE. if it doesnt turn or doesnt turn much it is already open. move on to next valve. once you find a valve that when u turn it CCWISE it keeps turning (you will also hear water flow inside valve) that is probably your bitch.

good luck and happy hunting.

i looked on the wall thats facing the street and didnt see anything, but ill look again to be sure. What color cover would the handle be? red, yellow? what would it say on the handle/label?

worse case scenario, i can say i turned them on myself. Moving them out is not an option...theres just way too much stuff to move and for what? so the sprinkler guy can come...no thanks, lol. ill set up the old fashion lawn watering devices or just water it myself

If you have found the control box on the outside of the house then in theory the valve should be about the same area just inside the basement. The other option would be to tell the landlord that he/she is wasting huge amounts of water when they water the lawn and it would be better for the environment if they didn't.

Why don't you ask her or the sprinkler guy where in the basement is the water valve? And tell them you'll turn it on? And if they ask why can't they turn it on, tell them you have all your stuff piled into boxes and you have to move it first, so you want to know exactly where the valve is so you don't have to move all the boxes, just the ones that block access to the valve..

some systems have zones. which the valves are outside. the main valve would be on the otherside the wall.in the basement. if its not a zoned system. then its a one pipe system with one inlet that runs all the sprinkler heads. the handles on valves are red. most of the time.

heres a pics that may help

Whatever you do, put a lock or somehow restrict access to the basement so that the sprinkler guy can't insist on going in there himself and doing it. This will at least buy you some time and give you a heads-up if he decides to.

They are on to you!!!

In that case, wouldn't they notify the police rather than the sprinkler guy?
In my state, sprinkler companies cannot make arrests or raid homes.

but thanks for your helpful imput

LOL

Chill out bro..... I was just fuckin with him a little. And if I am such a jackass then it must take one to know one cuz you took the time to stop by to just whine about my comment.

Maryjdad: You are right if they were onto you then they would come get you, but they cant if they have just a suspicion. If I was the LL I would send someone over to do a random repair every 2 months or so just for this reason. I dout they know anything unless you have told someone or let light leak. or act like a stoner with something in the basement. Clean your room and let em in. Otherwise they may think somethin is lurking under the stairs.

Are you on a well? If so, the on/off valve may be near the well, mine is.

If you didnt get it running yet, post some pics. Are you sure you turned them on properly from the controller
