I was in Boston back in 91 when "The Perfect Storm" hammered through. I was staying at the Marriott on the 10th floor. I remember opening the drapes, looking at all the debris being blown down the streets, on the phone with my son (6 at the time) and describing the havoc. It was pretty crazy.

yeah I remember that one, march 12th? 13th? it raised hell down in florida also,
I got a lot of roofing work from that one, it got cold as hell too!
this is already turning out to be like it.
yesterday here on the west side of florida it was around 80.
right now its 10:30 and were only at 55degrees!
we may top 60 if were lucky.
I feel for the peeps up in the NE, they're the ones gonna get hammered!

Didn't we have this same scenario last year? A lot of ppl lost power, but that was pretty much it. NYC did not get flooded, it was all hype.

And of course just before an important election they gotta raise the FEAR LEVEL of everyone. Cause insecurity makes ppl vote for conservatives...

Toughmudder - 'authorities' will be evacuating low-lying areas all along the East Coast.

....... I have a house 6 blocks north of the harbor with a perfect view of Fort McHenry but you won't find me observing the storm from there!

Headband - thanks for the kind thoughts. I have some of those ziplock bags but right now they're filled with something more important than water.

I'm not too worried about ME but am concerned for others who may get clobbered or lose property.

We live about as easterly as you can get.
Been through worse than what this storm promises.
Ive watched the walls of my home "breath", creaking and groaning, moving in and out as 90-100+ mph gusts slammed into it.
I am only about 600 yards from the open ocean, next stop -Spain.
Im sure the surf show is gonna be awesome by tomorrow morning. Maybe by the end of the day Ill only be about 550 yards away if there is heavy erosion.
There are a few homes down the way that are in serious shit though and may not be there by the end of the day tomorrow.
The dead end road that hooks off my road is about 1/2 mile shorter than it was 15 years ago. The rest of it has gone into the drink.

Damn. IDk. Maybe its not really a great idea, but I would really be interested to be that close to one of these freakish huge storms. I live in the mountains on the east coast and so the only thing that would make this storm good for me is if it somehow provided snow. Your description of the walls "breathing" sounds insane, but Id sorta think that in some way it would be like crawling through the back of a waterfall or something!
