Herbicides and pesticides on corn

[SIZE=+1]Once corn is planted and up a few inches, is it sprayed with herbicide and/or insecticide? If so, when, or at what height, more or less? Would they use Roundup? The farmer across the road used Roundup last year but it was a different situation. he sprayed to kill in July then planted winter wheat later. If farmers spray after the corn is up a bit, would they use Roundup? (Roundup bothers me a great deal, some other folks can't even smell it.)

There is a reason why the world health organization labels Roundup a known carcinogen and why many countries around the world have all out banned it's use. It's a disgusting chemical with disgusting effects and should be completely outlawed the world over.

Unfortunately the Obama administration increased the acceptable levels of how much glyphosate can be found in your food by 8 times.

Most corn and soy beans that uses round up are genetically modified round up ready crops that will see it's use thru the entire season to keep down the weeds in the field.

It can be applied both before and after planting. Some farmers skip the first step which is a half strength application then another application once weeds emerge and are under 4 inches.


Roundup is bad and so is all the fucking corn the U.S. grows. No crop rotation and keep throwing the nitrogen at the fields year after year. There is no small farmers left. This is destroying the planet and the reason the birds and the insects are experiencing mass extinction and reductions of populations. Small farms had fence rows and small barriers between fields to support these things. Now its Mile after mile not a tree in sight just corn. Sad.

So. if he sprays - corn is now about 3 to 4 inches high - will it likely be Roundup?

They spray herbacide about a week before planting around here. It may be fertilizer on that corn, but at 4" it sounds a little early.

They were supposed to keep GMO crops separate from our food supply, but gave up a long time ago. Avoid wheat, GMO corn, and definitely soybeans.

They also are spraying dicambia, since a lot of weeds have become roundup resistant. try talking with the farmer, so you can be ready and maybe take plants inside on spray day. The days of gurella grows in a random corn field are long gone.

When he was harrowing, there was a plastic tank on the job as well, but I don't know if that was plant/bug spray or what. The tank was a separate unit between the tractor and the harrows. Maybe he was seeding at the same time.
