hempy media substitute

Just wondering what everyones thoughts are on doing a hempy bucket with a hole drilled 2 inches from bottom and filled with hydroton? No pumps no reseviors or anything. Will it need to be watered more than once per day? Will the roots up top dry out even if theres water in the bottom resevior? Or will the roots suck up the water and keep the top of the roots moisturized?

Thanks I just read bits and pieces of the thread. I see someone already has tried it and it works. Cons are having to water often and root rotting issues. So put perlite on the bottom and hydroton on top?

100% perlite up til runoff hole, from there up I use 60%per/35%verm/5%hydroton or something like that..

no you will need something that binds water to it, like vermiculite or coco..It's different in hydro with drip feeding for hydroton because water flows thru more or less all the time..
