Help with UK based electricity specs!

Hi fellow ICMAG'ers,

I need help with supplying 40a to a garage outised, ill explain a little about the method that the elctricty is being setup in i just want to make sure that everything is safe and gauged up correctly.

My mate has made me a power board thats connected to my main consumer unit inside my house coming out of a 40amp fuse breaker i believe hes used 2.5mm wiring to do this (should it not be 6mm?).

He has taken the wires from the breaker and attached them to a separator and 6 power sockets that are screwed onto a peace of wood. The 2.5mm wires hes used are 3m in length so i was thinking to extend the power to else where can i just make some form of extension lead with 6mm wiring? ill need minimum 6 sockets how would i do this?

I want the full 40a so i can use co2 dehumidifier and possibly some aircon also ill be plugging my contacter into the six sockets ill keep in mind not to overload the sockets by exceeding 7600volts i believe is the max capacity of uk sockets and also not exceed 40a as the breaker will trip. If anyone has electrical knowledge then please can you advise me im worried about the 2.5mm hes used as i swear that supports max 23a-32a and am unsure how to make a 6 socket 40a extension lead that at one end will be plugging into a single socket that my mate made!

Probbaly the easiest way to go about things is to phrase it this way can anyone tell me or point me in the right direction to build a 40a extension that comprises of the following

1x 6 socket power strip that can sustain 40a total spread across the sockets or

3x 2 double sockets that are fed off one input and spread 40a in total, connected to a wood back plate

My only stipulation is that they will be connected and fed via my consumer unit via a 40a fuse. Thanxs for any help received.

If hes used a single 2.5mm2 then its not big enough. If it has 2x 2.5mm (ring main) then it`ll take 32A. If you want the full 40amps (10kw) replace the dodgy 2.5mm with a 6mm2.

Just to add, if you make changes to the wiring in the consumer unit its classed as notifiable work under Part P.

thanx Me2 any chnace you could take a look at my second question is there a way to feed 3x 2double sockets off one input feed making my own extention or am i just better extending the 2.5m wires hes used for the original sockets if i do they will be extended to around 25m cominng from the CU.

You won`t be able to run 40amps down a single 2.5mm2 so that will need to be replaced whatever happpens. If you plan to use 25 metres of cable with 40 amps you`ll definitely need a 6mm2 or the voltage drop will be excessive.
I`d run a 6mm2 from the house consumer unit to the shed and fit a shed/garage type consumer unit which have a couple of mcbs for your sockets/light circuits.
25metres is a hell of a long way.. i buried a 4mm2 armoured cable about that length for my greenhouse and 6mm2 will be expensive.
